First, at this time of the offseason, there is a reason someone is still on the board--it requires a team to take a chance on some bottom feeding and try to find some damaged goods with upside. Convince me that I am wrong about Elijah Moore. I don't know more than what seems to be the case on paper. The negatives: He underperformed in Cleveland (inconsistent) and they did not re-sign him. The Browns are in cap hell, so that is understandable, but 30 other NFL teams did not sign him either. He had a pretty nasty head injury last season. He was drafted by the Jets and quickly traded to Cleveland. He is 5'9.5" and 178. Average to below-average size for a slot. Has tendency to use elongated step into route breaks. Limited catch radius dealing with tall throws. Could struggle fighting against NFL length when working downfield. Focus drops in 2019 with linebackers closing in. Elusiveness after the catch is average. Product of Mississippi (Lane Kiffin) program which tends to inflate numbers. The Positives (or reasons for hope): Had 61 catches in 2024 and was targeted 97 times. That resulted in only 538 yards and 1 TD. (More yards that XL and Coker) Spotrac has a value of $4m as a free agent. will be 25 during 2025 season Ran a 4.32 40 at pro day Consistent vertical push off the snap to threaten cornerbacks. Makes routes look the same each time out. Leverages defenders away from route breaks. has plenty of juice to get deep. Slams on brakes suddenly from full speed on comebacks. Caught 11 of 12 targets against Alabama in 2020. Tracks and stacks defender and adjusts into catch-ready positioning. Very tough guy with strong hands. Able to secure catches through hellacious hits. Capable of attacking on all three levels. Excellent spatial awareness against zone. MHS Analysis: He has been with two programs with rotating QBs who struggled. Why did the Jets give up on him so quickly? In Cleveland (2023 and 2024) he had 120 catches for nearly 1200 yards when the QB situation was questionable. He has been in the worst possible situations. I think (based on an article and video) he has been primarily a slot WR, but he is also known to get shy over the middle and is not that elusive. That sounds to me that he is out of position. With 4.3 speed and strong hands, put him outside as a short X. Make him a Steve Smith. At $4m, if that is what he would be willing to take (and I do not see his negotiating advantage at this point).

This. for some reason, he has the WR cognitive impairment disease that should be in an insane asylum, not a locker room.

I mocked spinach and crab cakes to you.

but did we telegraph it 6 weeks prior to the draft?
-
I try my best to avoid doing that--but it is hard to do. I had someone tell me the other day--you have predicted the panthers to take about every player...He was exaggerating, probably because he thinks I am awesome, but your mind really should be fluid at this time. I doubt the person we think the Panthers might take in March is our opinion in late April.

"I'm told....I'm told..." WHO IS TELLING YOU THIS???? Every year, everyone knows all about the Panthers interests etc. Damn, Morgan. Transparency is not good. Learn two words: Smokescreen and shutup.

No teammate of steve Smith after Moose (who was here when SS was drafted) ever materialized here. Reason? Smitty was a dick to them.

Who is the #5 WR for the Saints? Bucs? Falcons? Moore is one of those guys
-
the drops are factored by catchable targets. In that stat, the average NFL drop rate is 6.7. However, if you are looking at PASS ATTEMPTS, the percentage of drops iin the NFL is 3.6%. Here are the drops by team per pass attempt: FUN FACT: The stadium with the highest drop rate is KC--the lowest drop rate is Minnesota.
-
Moore as a #5 WR is not bad. he is 30, hope it is a 1-year deal vet min.

I see it this way--I agree with you, first of all, but pushing all your chips in on Winston has been a losing proposition for a lot of GMs and Coaches. He oozes talent, but makes one or two dumbass plays a game that make you cry. Schoen and Daboll are gone after this season if there is no progress. It would be risky, but better than a lot of other options. I hate what Rodgers is doing to them. The last 2 superstar GB QBs have been peckerheads--I used to like GB, but I could not pull for Favre or Rodgers.
-
Some call me crazy for making posts like this--but I see the second tier qbs in this draft as some potentially developmental gems--I would take Will Howard in the third or fourth to keep protected on the PS and learn for 2 years. I would consider the QBs from Syracuse, Texas, Ole Miss, Louisville, Ohio State, and maybe even Alabama in that role. I think the two years of development and watching would be great-some players develop at times that don't align with the NFL draft. In two years, you have an option--yuo don't have an average QB's agent robbing you because they know you are out of options

Panthers Prospect Visits/Meetings (Final Update-4/22)
MHS831 replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
TEA LEAVE TIME!!! The coaches (ILB and DL) suggest an interest in TJ Sanders, Hemingway (DTs) and Demetrius Knight Jr. (ILB that nobody has mentioned but is probably a late third, early fourth rounder). No DB coach? Emmanawori is their best player, a mid to late round S. Wonder if the ILB coach will watch him as well? Note: While Hemmingway is not their star DT, the Panthers talked to him at one of the bowl games or combine. Not sure if it was formal, but I read it somewhere. -

You might be spot on, but I see him as a mid first round guy--a small trade back and he would be my pick. I think he has upside and will be a better pro than the other top WRs. but nobody knows. -

Highest upside in the draft. They said the same about Worthy last year. I understand the concerns, but gamers step up and have the tape to back it up. Workout warriors dont. -
that makes me feel better--I need to watch his videos

If you play DL for 13 games, how do you not accidentally get 1.5 sacks a year?
-
I was just joking (sorta) when I posted this last month. Then there was this: I was not 100% serious. I did not think it would happen. Please Dan. Don't draft a defensive XL in the first round this year.
-
Another project in the first round would get Dan hammered by local fans. If the Panthers did not institute a gag order after Xavier "Dollar Bill" Legette started running his mouth last year, then I would think they are trying to suck.

Growing Sense that we take Mykel/Shemar, No matter who's available
MHS831 replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
S or TE at 8 is not the way to go--but if we move back, I would take a safety around 20. I see edge or WR at 8---but I look at the draft--where the talent is and based on our needs--I would do this, even though nobody asked. In the first round, I would take the WR (we need 2 if nothing changes) and I think Golden will be in the top 10 range then--that is who I would take, knowing what I know now. TMac is in play as well. In the second round, I think I would wait with a list of possible edge rushers--Princely, Sawyer, etc. and possibly move up 5-10 spots in the second to get the edge we like I think we probably like "dawg" Jack Sawyer. In the third, I would look at Safety. If we can end day 2 with a WR, edge, and S, I would be happy. -

I think we should give them our team hat to wear in the green room. -

Of course, that S from South Carolina is a beast as well, and we like to draft Gamecocks first overall of late. -

We do like our raw and injured prospects. In both I see almost the same player, and it is not a player we need. Don't we have these guys in Wonnum and Pat Jones? They are all about the same size. I do not see the logic in drafting another player in that mold. I don't think anyone in mid march has an idea yet. Let it play out. -
Beats me, buddy. Look at SF--they are gutting their roster so they can give Purdy a QB deal. I have a friend who said they should give the QB $130m of the cap and let him pay his OL, WRs, RBs, and TEs. You want $60m? Then you have $70m for the rest... That is what bothers me about Bryce Young. If you have to pay him $60m in 2 years, and if it takes $80m to pay for the kind of OL you need to protect him, and he needs WRs that will cost $40m and a meager $10m for RBs and $10 m for TEs....we are saying that for Bryce to be effective, it is going to cost $200m. That leaves $80m for the defense. We can't keep paying $30m per year for guards while our OTs are making $40m. $10m at C, and a $60m QB is half the cap. That does not include WRs, TEs, RBs. It is crazy. As you say, we have to draft effectively and we have to be very intelligent about our second contracts. '

The Bengals are currently in negotiations with Hendrickson. If they do, over 50% of their cap will go to 4 players.
