apparently there was some drama in our draft room
rayzor replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just like Rhule said on the Rich Eisen show, "if everyone is thinking the same thing, no one is thinking". They have a culture that allows and even encourages, but also respects a strong difference of opinion. It's ok. Yes, it is/was a gamble, but so is every other decision in the draft. Like Fitt also said, according to Gantt, "trust the board". They went in with a plan and trusted it and adapted it to take care of what they needed to. Basically, it's something that I expect, bit also not something that throws up a red flag about the organization the way it does in Philly. -
Part of the thing that has impressed me about Darnold is his scrambling ability, being able to keep the play alive and look for the best opportunity.

Good. That's where they should be...for now. Start from the bottom and earn respect.

I think they are looking at him being 23 years old as a rookie with more experience. Rather, just a really young guy who they can build around for a long time. I mean that's what you're wanting when you draft what you hope is a franchise QB. He did mention, though, that there isn't a really great hit rate in drafting QBs in the first round. It's always a gamble, even this year. We'll be lucky to see half of the QBs taken in the first round still starting after 3 years. One thing Rhule also mentioned was that when his defensive staff was looking at jets tape, snow said he looked like Matt Stafford. Rhule also talked about conversations with him when Rhule was up for the NYJ job a couple years back and being really impressed with the tone and direction of the conversation with him, like Darnold was on another level maturity-wise. I don't think it has anything to do with an aversion to rookie QBs and everything to do with believing in Darnold.

QB's and WR's working out together this offseason
rayzor replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't have instagram. Can't watch it -
I replayed that one at least a dozen times the first time I saw it. Flat out amazing seeing that big guy run like that.

Tryin’ to make a roster out of Fitty cents (A Horn and a tackle)
rayzor replied to SCP's topic in Carolina Panthers
That is borderline territory there, but if i'm hungry and desperate...boneless can carry the sauce. -
Those poor birds. I almost feel sorry for them. Actually, screw 'em. Worse fans in the world. Let the wallow in misery for the next decade.

Luke Kuechly has resigned from the Panthers scouting staff
rayzor replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
He's retired and has millions to live off of. Why not take a break for a while? -

Raise your hand, everyone, if you think David newton can tell the difference between resigned and re-signed. Of course probably only half the crowd probably knows this and the other half didn't and thinks I'm a grammar nazi for noticing and pointing it out. -

Eventually, but it could be argued we weren't ok with him here. We knew he wouldn't stay forever. We'll start winning again soon. -
aka @FootballCzar of Football Gameplan (FBGP) And btw, apparently he's working for CBS now. Congrats to him if he swings by.

After what we've been through for years and years I could hardly blame you. I'll tell you I 100% believe those days are over and this team is being managed the best it has ever been. You obviously aren't there yet, but just remember...it's ok to feel optimistic about the direction we are taking and its ok to have a little faith in the guys running the team It will make this off-season a whole lot more fun. Better to have faith/optimisim and then be disappointed than to never have it at all.

Just admit it.... you're skeered.

The biggest problem and the thing that will hold someone back is thinking there is only one path and feeling that a veering off that path could possibly result in failure so it should be avoided. Come in with an open mind and realize that regrets and mistakes are always a possibility and you live with it. They picked the best players on their board and a mistake would have been fixated on QB or LT regardless of talent skipped over on the board. And CB is absolutely crucial when facing elite receiving competition...regardless of the perceived value by some in the "modern" nfl.

I think it absolutely does have to do with a myopic view that many of these pundits/draft hacks have on the team and what they decided we should do. If they are incapable of stepping back and seeing the big picture, then they are going to grade us poorly. Basically it's small minded people who are going to look at the fact we didn't draft a QB or an OT in the first couple rounds and see it as a fail.

Panthers interviewing Morgan, others for Assistant GM job

Morgan all the way. -

I'll be fine with Morgan coming in. I hope he gets the job. Glad we're trying to get him. And we'll be ok without Luke here. -
totally agree about the D helping him out. Having consistently good field position and the opponent's score being kept in check will definitely help take pressure off him and the passing game.
