You, my friend, are one lucky duck.

 

Oh how times change. It seemed that it was just yesterday that Penn State fans everywhere were shaking in their boots over the thought of having a player with three career catches as the number one option from the wide receiver spot. Well, 177 catches, 2,379 yards, and 17 touchdowns later, we say goodbye to one of the greatest wide receivers to ever wear the Penn State uniform. From providing stability for his quarterback, to supplying fans with eternal joy, Allen Robinson was truly one of the most memorable players to wear the blue and white.

 

 

We'll start with the positives. Robinson brings to the table a nice big frame who can reach the ball at its highest point as well as anybody in the game. The former standout high school basketball player knows how to get up in the air on the court as well as on the field. He was never one who had trouble fighting off blockers on the line, and runs his routes well to create separation. He has a sometimes inexplicably impressive ability to make plays after the catch, as he does a fantastic job of setting up his blockers and using subtle but effective juke moves in space. He very rarely gets taken down for a short loss. His leaping abilities should lead him to be a reliable red zone target in the NFL.

 

 

There aren't many downsides to Robinson's game. The obvious one that is immediately pointed out by his detractors is the fact that he is not a burner. Which is true. Robinson will never be one who simply bursts down the sidelines or outruns any cornerback foolish enough to cover him. He simply doesn't have that kind of speed. However as I mentioned earlier, that is not his game. While the term "game speed" can sometimes be overblown, Robinson embodies the idea pretty well. He won't run straight past faster corners and safeties, but he will allow his blockers to do their jobs and find open space for himself.

 

This guy is really starting to grow on me. Great size, he's great in the open field with his cuts, not necessarily his breakaway speed. Although, he does have some fuel in the tank. He's fast for 6'3 210.

 

This is the one part of the article that interests me, though:

 

 

In the end, if he is put in the right situation, Allen Robinson will become a very productive number two receiver in the NFL, with the ability to be the main guy should be he put in that situation at some point down the line.

I'm officially on the bandwagon, but not due to this thread.  I'm a little worried he'll be too much of a reach at 28...Hoping he drops to 60. 

 

If we think he's the heir apparent to steve smith, then we BEST draft hat mofo in the first. I mean that in the case of any WR. We need the help.

I can definitely see us trading up in the 2nd to pick up one of these "2nd/3rd tier" WRs...Or maybe trade down out of the 1st?  It just seems like we've been spending a lot of time with players projected to be top-mid 2nd round, IMO.

      Wanting that type of play and being okay with paying $55 million a season for it are two entirely different things. If Bryce were to become the same player Purdy has been, then he would surpass my expectations of him and I'd be okay with him as our QB of the future (and again, I've long been one of the bigger anti Bryce people here who doesn't think he is capable of being our long term solution). But in no world would I be okay with paying him THAT kind of money, paying an average starter elite money is just a terrible decision.

      I don't think they can overcome that mistake. Hell Lance was a hiccup compared to this. He isn't going to be able to carry that price tag and now he is going to have to do just that. Lol. The NFL is so dumb sometimes.

      So, one could say that T-Mac is quicker than someone of his size should be and while he might not be quite as fast as Evans in the 40, he's more athletic than Evans. If only someone, anyone, could have seen that in his tape and mentioned that on here, hmmmmmmm In all seriousness, hearing he tested in the 89th percentile in that drill at his size is crazy impressive.  Just tried to look up the times of the top WRs in the league right now, most don't show at time for that, but I did see Chase ran his in 7 seconds flat. I honestly don't know how true this is, but I do remember seeing one breakdown of his tape and the person said he has quiet and efficient feet.  That he's really good at using the minimal steps possible to make his cuts and because of that, it actually makes him look slower to the human eye because you don't see all the quick chop steps that the guys like Tyreek would use in their running. I'm still in a state of disbelief that he's a Panther and it might not fully hit me until week 1 and I see him out there making plays for us, still feels like Goodell is going to just be like, "YOU GOT PUNKED!!!  hahaha, he's a Cowboy now, suck it"
