i guess BPA is bullshit to everyone. guess we gotta reach for need from now on guys, like hurney did.

LT wasnt fugging there in the 2nd. you think a srub rookie 3rd tier LT will upgrade over Bell/Chandler or a FA? June cuts to come folks.

seriously. we were truly looking at another poo LT to take in the 2nd. so instead of getting atop tier De that will help with cap we would be adding another question mark to the LT equasion. the scrub we would have selected there wouldnt have solved that problem. would have STILL been a majr weak spot

You, you. Get. It.

it could happen. that's the risk of bpa. when it happens you got to trust that board, right? even if it's something that you don't need, you got to trust that almighty board or you'll go down as a bad GM that reaches for  (addresses) needs in the draft and we can't have that, can we? no sir!!!!! no situational thinking allowed. youve got to obey that board and let it make all the decisions for you. so what if you end up with a very lopsided draft and glaring holes...as long as you don't think about what your team needs because thats a sign of weakness and ineptitude.

I see the frustration in your words and I get it, I really do.  Tackle is still a concern at the moment for a lot of us fans.  The thing that has brought me the most comfort is that our front office has decided that the line isn't in as bad of a shape as is portrayed.  They have confidence in the secondary.  And most importantly, every one of the needs that Carolina had could never have been met in this draft alone.  To use a bad analogy here, sometimes a punt is a good play.  We took who was there with good value in hopes that we addressed enough this year.  Next year is going to happen still and maybe then we fill another need.  Lets just give this season a bit of a chance before we lose it on what we didn't get out of the draft.  You're a reasonable guy Rayzor just give it a little time.

I don't think that there's anything wrong with Gettleman's draft strategy. His plan all along has been to get positions up to an acceptable level of talent in FA and draft the best players on his board in May. The problem is that we are still in cap hell and Jordan Gross' retirement sort of threw a monkey wrench in our plans at offensive line. I don't think there is one person not wary of our situation on the edges but in the third round would you rather pick a guy who has a good chance of being a solid starting guard for years or some so-so OT prospect that might be a solid left tackle in an unlikely best case scenario?

An average of 30 players are day 1 starters in each draft year to year.  (Less than 1 per team).  The odds are against him being an immediate impact.  I urge fans to curb their enthusiasm.  I have no doubt he will be a good player for us, but I doubt it's as soon as some may think.

Not exactly the same scenario.

Robinson actually fell in the draft so teams were obviously wary of something.

Turner was picked right where his grade was.

I'd do it again all over..

I didn't expect they would really find a quality LT that could step in right away and solve all our problems this year and that's what everyone is so concerned about.  I suspect they have a better chance at upgrading LT after cuts are made..  More so than any draft pick in the 3rd round..  And so I don't see why all the bad feelings..

And now Gettleman has a chance to take a breath and see where the cap #'s are..  DWill would help recover about 2mil if it came to that..  Which that could happen regardless..

Immediate impact or immediate starter?

Because odds are in his favor of becoming an immediate starter.

The panthers have done a pretty good job at getting multiple starters over the last few drafts. I don't see any reason for that to change as I expect both KB and Turner to be starters.

Starter.  I am talking about day 1 starters.  Game 1 of the year.  Chances are he will not be the starter on Day 1.  I guess that assumes that Kelvin will be a day 1 starter... maybe Turner will be a starter, and KB will take a while to develop.  Who knows?  But if there are only 30 rookie starters day 1, then odds are against a 3rd round pick of starting.

Who is going to beat him out?

DG said that he was drafted in part due to the injuries to Silatolu and Kugbilla (but he did note that Silatolu was further on).

Literally the only thing that Kugbilla has on Turner is having the playbook down (hopefully). Other than that those two guys are on equal terms.

Chris Scott is the only other guy with experience and after he returned from injury he lost his job to Nate Chandler.

Trai Turner is in the drivers seat to be a day one starter.

I hope he starts.  With our offense being similar to LSU's, he should start.  We may be lucky and have a starter with our 3rd round pick from day 1.  Chances are, we won't have 2 starters day 1 though.  KB seems a little slow, and don't know if he will be able to absorb the playbook quickly enough to be a day 1 starter.  We may just sub him in for redzone plays in the beginning.

If I was a betting man, I'd bet on Turner starting at RG over KB starting at WR.

I think Rivera will go with the vets (Avant and Cotchery) first and let KB work his way in unless he just dominates the offseason.

In that case, we may have two starting rookies.

As far as the statistical side, I wouldn't pay to much attention to that because every team is built differently. This offseason was abnormal for any team. It was so strange that opposing teams players were taking to twitter asking "what are the Carolina Panthers doing?" We lost more players from cuts/free agency/retirement that we might have set some record.

Overall, if you're a rookie and you're in Carolina... you have a great opportunity.
