Quit texting and driving or go directly to jail or pay a $500 fine, whichever is fair

I'll say this. All my personal vehicles have manual transmissions and I don't do half the stupid poo I see other motorist doing while driving. Texting, eating, playing with the radio, holding a cell phone, reading, fumbling for CD's. or any of that other crap, nope, I have to shift gears. Driving might be safer if our cars didn't do so much for us.

impaired driving is impaired driving. doesn't matter if it's talking on the phone, texting, drunk, high, whatever; in every case the driver made a conscious decision that resulted in them not driving at the best of their ability.  If that results in someone being injured or killed, the penalties should be the same.  the source of the impairment is irrelevant.

Was about to post the same thing, driving a stick forces one to devote more attention to driving and limits opportunities to do stupid crap like texting or eating.  Granted, when in 6th gear on the interstate there is no difference but I'd still be interested to see statistics on accident rates for automatic vs. manual transmission vehicle.  Maybe when I'm an old geezer I'll switch to automatic, but for now there's no way I'm driving anything other than a manual.

fug automatic transmissions

I can't stand an automatic. That's boring as hell.

I used to text a lot, even driving a stick. One morning I barely missed a wreck when something blew out of a pickup a few cars in front of me, I had to go into the grass and the car behind had actually noticed and went to  go around and we almost hit each other and caused a worse situation. My phone puts itself on auto-reply when I'm driving now, and I don't mind at all.

But, I ran into the back of a dodge while listening to Toto and making faces at my stupid girlfriend, so now 80's jams and easily amused gf's are banned from my car too.

When I got my first BlackBerry, I was driving on the interstate and got an email. Initially, I thought it was cool as fug to get emails while driving. Then I realized I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. I will text people at a red light, but any other time, fug that poo. I like my vehicles too much to fug them up over a text.
