Vegas says we win 8 games this year

You'd be amazed how true that is in sports.

Actually, I've heard from people who actually had a career in the NFL.  And they pretty much universally say that the whole idea of tanked seasons is one of the stupidest things they've ever heard fans suggest.

But by all means feel free to come up with some goofball spin that they're not being truthful or they somehow don't know as much about the sport they actually played in as you do.

The players don't know when a team is tanking. It's called retooling.

Coaches and GMs would tell you the same thing.

This isn't Madden, kid.  For a plan like that to actually work, you'd need the cooperation of a load of people (players, coaches, etc),  Among them would be veterans riding out their final years, free agents looking to score big contracts and people who have contract incentives they need to meet.

But even without incentives, everyone - coaches, GMs, etc - makes more money when teams win rather than lose.  Not to mention that that people get fired after bad seasons.  Thus, for this to work, you'd need a lot of people to be willing to cost themselves a lot of money, and perhaps their jobs.

You actually think people would cooperate with a plan that could cost them their job?  And please don't bother throwing in some goofball idea like "the owner would promise not to fire them or pay them more next year" because that'd just be another example of making up stuff to cover not having a clue what you're talking about (which you're already doing).

We're not trying to tank this season.  The whole idea is just ridiculously stupid.

Yeesh

You're just a believer. I bet you think point shaving means players intentionally miss baskets.

Actually, it does

Point shaving is when an individual player 'shaves' points to affect the spread so that they can win on a bet.  That's a pretty far cry - especially in a sport with 5 players - from an NFL team tanking.

You're just a believer. I bet you think point shaving means players intentionally miss baskets. A NBA GM already admit sometimes for a team to win they have to lose first. That's why the NBA came up with the lottery system to discourage that. Let me guess, that would never happen to your favorite sport? Sports is a business. Season ticket sales goes up for picking a guy like Clowney. More than the team that picked 20th and picked who knows who.

What I am is someone who believes people who have actually been in the League over a fan who's never been anywhere close to an actual organization and just subscribes to a bunch of goofball theories.

Seems about right. What Gettleman wanted. Set us up nicely for 2015

2015? Right now it's only 2014 and Charles Johnson will be 28 in July, Greg Olsen is 29, Ryan Kalil is 29, Thomas David is 31, Jason Avant is 31, Jerricho Cotchery will be 32 in June....in 2015, they will be 29, 30, 30, 32, 32, 33

Charles Johnson has us tied up with a bloated contract through 2016 (Kalil too to a lesser degree), so one or both of them might be cut if they don't take a pay cut

this year is the last year of Greg Hardy's contract (we pay him $13.1 million this year). He turns 26 in July, just entering his prime years, so he figures to get a huge contract with someone (us?)

this is the last year of Cam's rookie contract. for 2015, we've agreed to pay Cam $15 million, triple his annual salary. After that, spotrac predicts he will get a 6-year $102.3 million contract ($17 million per year)

and the 2015 team has to be structured to not only to make room for Cam (and Hardy?), but also looking forward to make room for once Luke (2015 is last year on rookie deal), Star (2016), and Kawann (2016) get paid. Luke was Defensive Player of the Year and figures to be paid handsomely ($11 to 14 million per year?). at the rate Star and Kawann are going, they both figure to be paid handsomely as well. Last year both were named to the Pro Football Focus all-rookie team and only rated behind the following rookies:

1. DL Sheldon Richardson (+30.4)

2. OG Larry Warford (+22.8)

3. RB Eddie Lacy (+17.8)

3. RB Giovani Bernard (+17.8)

5. WR Keenan Allen (+17.0)

6. DT Kawann Short, CAR (+16.4)

7. LB Kiko Alonso (+16.0)

8. DT Star Lotelelei (+15.1)

(both graded better than Eric Reid, Kenny Vaccaro, Tyrann Mathieu, etc)

They've got pretty much everyone in our Division around .500

competitive division = easier to win back to back division crowns & make the playoffs.

honestly i am tempted to say that it will be easier to win the NFCS this year than it will be to win a wild card berth. it was about equal last year but with 4 legit teams in the NFCS, 3 legit teams in the NFCN, and probably 4 legit teams in the NFCW, its gonna be really hard to earn a playoff spot if a team doesnt win its division.

wouldnt surprise me at all if no one in the NFC wins more than 11 games in 2014... except maybe the Eagles. their division is trash right now haha
