Sorenson: a team called to see if we'd part with our picks

Recommended Posts

When a selection is made with the ninth pick, however, Charlotte might no longer have it. A team called Wednesday asking the Hornets if they’re willing to part with their picks. They are.

Would you rather have a rookie or 28-year-old Aaron Afflalo? A 6-5 guard, Afflalo averaged 18.2 points for Orlando this season, hitting 45.9 from the field and 42.7 on three-pointers without anybody noticing.

Could the Hornets trade the ninth pick to young and developing Orlando for the veteran?

The Hornets also have the 24th pick, and I would love, love, love to see them grab P.J. Hairston with it. Hairston, who played for North Carolina before being booted to the Development League, has enough talent to move into the lottery and enough baggage to drag him down to 24.

Whatever Charlotte does, it has to find a shooter. A shooter would create space inside for Al Jefferson and outside for Kemba Walker.

If the Timberwolves are even considering trading Kevin Love for David Lee's huge contract and Harrison Barnes, then surely the Hornets can either make a better deal than that or get in on that trade in some way.

If I was Charlotte, I'd try #9 and McRoberts (expiring) for Love, or #9 and Zeller for Love, or if that's not enough, then #9, McRoberts and EITHER Kemba OR Henderson (not both) for Love AND #13?

Each of those options is just as good if not better for Minnesota as Barnes and an aging David Lee with a mammoth contract.

If Love will only go to Golden State or Chicago and won't be willing to sign an extension with Charlotte, then I'd try this:

Minnesota gets: #9, McRoberts and Lee

Charlotte gets: #13 and Harrison Barnes

Golden State gets: Kevin Love

I'd put Barnes at the #2 since that's what his game is, keep MKG at the 3, and then figure out the #4 spot. If you don't get love, then you can go after Kyrie Irving when he leaves Cleveland soon, and he'll want to play with MKG and Barnes, giving you a big backcourt and lineup.

No one wants David Lee's contract, and I don't want to see it in Charlotte, but you guys are thinking too small with all the Hornets have to work with.

The way I see it they need a youthful but vet shooter and a rookie strong on offense.

I can see us making a move for Afflalo no doubt.  This would be near impossible to happen but I'd actually like the following on the court-->

Kemba

Afflalo

MKG

TJ Warren

Jefferson

Some of you guys WAY underestimate what teams would accept for certain players.

There is no way we could get love for less than 2 1st round picks and a player.

The idea that #9 and Zeller would do the trick is laughable IMO

Yea it is. It would take MKG, Zeller. And the two first rounders or

Zeller, Hendo and 3 first round picks. The two this year and a third unprotected pick in 2016 draft.

Why the fug would Minnesota do either of those trades? Those are god awful offers for Love and Barnes. I don't know if this board has always been filled with idiotic trade proposals or not but regardless this is just too much to take. Nothing personal, but that was just a really stupid trade idea.

Because Love isn't coming back to Minny and he isn't worth what Lebron or Carmelo went for.

Value wise Lebron went for 2 first round picks, a first round swap and 2 second round picks.

Anthony went for a first round pick, 2 second round picks and Gallinari, Mozgov, and Wilson Chandler basically. They sent some players out in the trade as well.

I didn't say they would, so laugh away at your own self.

I said IF THEY ARE WILLING TO TRADE LOVE FOR BARNES AND LEE, then the Hornets can give up some pieces that are equivalent, and I also included some three player options.

"If"? Yet again, too many people don't understand what the word "if" means.

As for Minnesota, they already have four picks in this draft. Giving them both picks 9 and 24 is also an option, but only if you can get one of their picks back along with Love, since they're going to be looking to shed some of them anyway. They don't need, and probably don't want "SIX" picks.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
