Would you want this much Science and Technology in Football?

Recommended Posts

I can't wait for the day when we can eliminate ref errors and don't have to argue about a call because we know the call is right. Just like as if you were playing a game on your PC or console. The penalties that are called are always correct in those games because the computer has been programmed to know what a penalty looks like. If we could bring that same kind of stability to real life, football games would be much more enjoyable to watch and you will always know that the best team won without the aid of the refs. That day may be years and years away, but we have to start somewhere.

The refs are only there to make sure the game is played the way it should. Technology would help them enforce that and get it right way more often than they ever would alone. If you are a true football fan, you would want the game to be as pure as you want it without monumental human errors. Even with replay, refs still royally screw it up.

Yeah, let's add an hour to the game so that a few folks can have their precious technology.

And what guarantee do you have that one punt of the football or one Steve Smith spin doesn't throw it out of whack by a inch or two or more.

You can't.  The spotting of the football is pretty good for the most part.  Occasionally they do a  lousy job of spotting it. And if it is that bad they challenge it.  I would say 7-10 challenges are upheld and the team loses a timeout.

Leave it alone.  Not worth the headache.

Typical huddle response.  Your not a true fan if you don't agree with me.

We could very well say the samething about our space programs.

"It's not worth the headache. Leave it alone".

If we had the same attitude like that about everything else, society wouldn't grow at all. We wouldn't know anything. We wouldn't be as far along as a species that we are today.

In the beginning, there will be some kinks to work out. But like I said before, we have to start somewhere. You don't advance by just sitting on your ass.

I am so happy you compare football to the space program.  Good God. This is a game. Discussion making game.  Discussions by men not machines.

I guess using your idea to improve the game.  Let's build computer robots the play. No injuries to worry about.  Every play will be perfectly executed by computers and you favorite robot can play for 20 to 30 years.

We don't need a football with wires and gadgets all over and in it.

They aren't mutually exclusive. Society is continuing to advance. Imagine society 50 years from now. How far along in technology they will be. Football is included in society. The NFL too will be advanced. They have to and will start advancing in technology at some point. They should start now. They can't keep in their old ways forever.

Use your brain and think instead of typing dramatic nonsense as usual.

Nice overreaction and really not adding anything to this convo.

Wow, nice rebuttal.

Referee's are a part of the game. Just because us real football fans don't want more technology added to our game, does not mean we hate technology. Adding technology for no apparent reason is just silly. And only the silly would want it implemented.

Also, football games are long enough already. Let's go ahead and add an hour so that fans like you will know with undying certainty that every fugging call was dead on balls accurate. Cuz you know, the world revolves around the refs getting every call right.

Football is a game played by humans, and refereed by humans. We have enough technology as it is. Leave the game alone.

Where is this mythical extra hour you talk about coming from?

Adding technology to know where a ball should be spotted, if it crossed the goal line, etc., isn't silly at all. It improves the game.

If anything it would make the games shorter. How many games have been extended because the refs don't know what the fug to call?

The NFL needs to advance. I'm glad scientists of today don't share the same attitude as you. Nothing would improve.

Yeah because you are the only one with a brain? lol

I love how you dismiss other folks opinions so readily. Must be dangerous living on that high horse. Watch out for low hanging branches though. One head injury and you will be as brain-dead as the rest of us.

When players have jet-packs, then maybe technology will be needed. Until then, the refs, with a little help from their friends, are enough.

We already have instant replay. That is more than added time to the game. We don't need to add technology to find the spot of the damm ball.

You are expounding on the virtues of technology. Pray tell me how you plan to implement such futuristic concepts into the game.

Equating scientists with football? Careful, you will pull your arm out reaching for a valid point.

    • WR: Nico, Woods, Tank (R) TE: Schultz OL: Tunsil/Howard/Deiter/Mason/Fant vs. WR: Chark, Thielen, Mingo (R) TE: Hurst OL: Icky/Zavala (R)/Bozeman/Jensen (R)/Moton   Panthers' had the better OL before losing BC week 1 and AC week 4 which is kind of ironic considering how in the following year DB went down in W1 and Shaq in W4 resulting in the defense going all to Hell. CJ has done amazing in Houston, but he also wasn't asked to carry Zavala, Jensen, Mingo, Hurst, and Chark as a rookie.
    • Past 5 seasons, IMO CJ Stroud and Joe Burrow are the 2 best young QBs that have emerged in the league in that window.  They also didn’t need vets to be their primary pass catchers.  They helped fellow youngsters be great at WR.   almost all the other young QBs have been paired up with vets in their top options….and haven’t been as promising.  so it isn’t Madden.  But the league hasn’t played out as you suggest it does.   Good QBs make others around them better.
    • In 2023 their roster wasn’t stacked. They nailed the poo out of the 2023 draft and since they knew Davis Mills wasn’t the guy, they tanked properly to get pick 2. They also took Cleveland’s ridiculous offer for Watson unlike us with Burns. Houston received enough draft capital to jump up to 3 while picking up the right guys in Anderson and Stroud. The Texans were not stacked or better than us in 2023. They had 11 total wins from 2020 to 2022. They didn’t have a terrible front office so they made sure they got their QB of the future while tanking well and getting more draft picks. They are a textbook study of what we should have done in 2022/2023 offseason even though people in here still think tanking is a bad word and our culture would be bad if we were the Texans. We literally had the chance to be the Texans right now and fuged it up.
