Canes Willing To Eat Nearly 40% Of Ward's Salary To Move Him

According to Will DePaoli of Inside Pittsburgh, Ron Francis is desperately trying to get Cam Ward's salary off the book and he is willing to eat up to $5 million dollars of Ward's $13.5 million dollar contract (nearly 40%).

 

Apparently Brian Burke (the Calgary Flames president) is a big fan of Ward, unfortunately Ward has a no-trade clause and may not waive for Calgary.

 

If Ward would waive his NTC for Calgary, here are some options.

 

- Cam Ward for a third round pick (25% retained)

- Cam Ward and mid-level prospect for a fourth round pick (0% retained)

- Cam Ward for a 5th round pick (0% retained)

- Cam Ward for David Jones (0% retained)

- Cam Ward for Dennis Wideman (15% retained)

Christ.  You know something is up when you're retaining salary for a bunch of players and actively searching to move them.  JR was Hurney-esque is some of his salary numbers.  I'm scared Francis is going to be the same way.

Ward's contract is so bad and his play isn't at the level it should be.

 

Retaining salary might be the only way we get him moved.
