What the fug is soccer?

Srsly though...  Explain what penalties are.  Like is it like hockey being offsides but no "icing the puck"?

Penalties are when an attacker is tackled in the box and the official deems that the Defender didn't get the ball, or the tackle was excessive. Offsides is when your attacker is further up the field then the last line of defense at the moment the ball is played into them, whether through a lob, through ball, cross etc.

Ok so its a penalty if the defense gets beat?  I cant get behind them for a shot on goal?  No wonder you cant score in this game.  Thats worse than the illegal contact rule in football or no hand checking in b-ball.

Not a penalty, offsides. You just have to time your runs right. Think of the last line of Defense as the blue line in Hockey. Just like Hockey, if you're past the blue line (last line of defenders) you can pass the ball to teammates who are also past them.

How many "fouls" does a player get before he's ejected or removed?

Depends on how bad the foul is. Sometimes one foul = booked. Other times you can commit 5-6 fouls if they aren't severe without seeing a card.

I pretty much know that you only get penalty kicks if the penalty happens inside the box.  Are there any exceptions to that?

In the above picture, the blue team is attacking. When the ball is played forward by a teammate, no "scoring body part" can be beyond the last line of defense for the opposition (not including keeper).

Being even is onside.

If the attacking team is beyond the last line of defense, and the opposing team plays it back to him, he is onside.

If the goalkeeper is further up the pitch than a defender, he becomes the last line of defense, and he is the line.

Pictures definitely would have helped my explanation, but I was too lazy to google. Pie for you.

Yeah, if a player deliberately passes a ball back to the goal keeper and he picks it up. It's what is called an indirect free kick (in the box) meaning that the ball has to touch another player (either a teammate or opponent) before entering the net.

You only see this at the middle school and some times high school level though.

Edit: I misread the question... you only get a PK if a certain type of foul is committed in the box.

    • Yea when teams see a gun charge they rightly pause but this seems like a big misunderstanding.
    • Sorry man you lost me at "Teppers have evolved as owners". Limped into playoffs at 8-9 not even above .500 Tepper is trash as an owner bro and that's not even a discussion at this point. 37-83 w/l ratio. Nuff said.... Morgan tho, he's cooking and it ain't cuz of Teppers leadership
    • After listening to Morgan's presser twice, I came away with some key beliefs. First of all, I don't think he's a bullshitter. What you see is what you get. When he says something, he means it.  The Teppers really have evolved as owners. Morgan has mentioned how they're easy to work with--a pleasure to work with a few times now. There seems to be a good relationship between all of them (and include Dave Canales on that). We'll see if it lasts. Yes, no one wanted to come to Carolina with the previous management, but that seems to have changed. The team signed arguably the top Edge, LB and OT on the market, two of them on pretty good deals and one on what I'll say is "not a bad one." And, credit Sunshine Dave "Flowers and Cotton Candy" Canales for helping to change the culture. Morgan mentioned getting guys--and I'm paraphrasing--that are not only great football players but great people. Don't look for us to be acquiring any James Pearce types anytime soon, just saying. We'll see if that holds true in the future. Dan Morgan really has set up the Panthers to take the BPA/BAP. He mentioned it at least a couple of times, and he doesn't seem pressured to pinpoint a particular position. He just wants quality players that will help the team. This is how it's going to be (to your joy or dismay, probably for as long as he's here), and personally I love it. Many of us know how Morgan was when he played: aggressive! That's what he's going to be when making acquisitions. He explicitly said it, and emphasized it. All avenues are open (think FA, waivers...the draft)! Personally, as long as it's controlled aggression and not reckless aggression, I love it.  On KP: "Mobility is big in this league."  He basically says if another QB is the BPA while drafting--we're going by our board, people--we're going to add them.        ...
