Underrated/Overrated

Which NFL players are the most overrated or underrated?

Overrated: Matt Ryan is my first choice. People claim he is on the verge of being elite, but wouldn't most quarterbacks be almost elite with two #1 WR's and a #2 playing slot?

Underrated: Matt Forte is on the top of my list because of his constant production. Yet he doesn't get any media attention that he deserves.

Overrated: Andrew Luck. According to everybody, he is the Golden Boy that can do no wrong, but he has yet to anything that Cam hasn't done. Cam actually had better numbers in his first 2 years than Luck had, yet they say Cam is a tier 3 QB while Luck is a top 5.

Underrated: Earl Thomas. All the spotlight goes to Sherman, but it is really Thomas who strikes fear and controls that secondary. It seems that everybody always leaves out Thomas when talking about the Hawks.

I was thinking of putting Thomas, but he seems to get his due respect. All of the people watching know he's the best in the Seahawks secondary except for parts of the media. They just want to ride the Sherman Rant hype all the way to the bank.

Russell Wilson. Does nothing special and rides his stacked team.

I just can't agree with this after his game against us. Against Matty Ice we would have had 10 sacks that game, but Wilson managed to get free and find open guys.

he makes the same kind of plays Cam does. he's actually incredible to watch.

as for overrated/underated:

overrated: luck (this is only because of media hype, dude can ball out but they have anointed him wayyyyyyyy too early)

underrated: TD (dude gets almost zero attention) but for non panther big ben.

    • I read that Pittsburgh is a possibility.  I think of college QB studs who had some form of mental quirk yet tons of talent--but their issue made being a team leader difficult and it led to their demise--going back:  Jamarcus Russell, Art Schlichter, Jeff George, etc. I think people forget that the QB must not only have talent, but they must lead.
    • I wish I knew more details, but the NIL money to 20-year olds combined with easy access to gambling sites is a side effect that these kids may not have considered.  To your point,A famous 2009 Sports Illustrated article titled “How (and Why) Athletes Go Broke” estimated that 78% of retired NFL players go bankrupt or face significant financial stress within two years of leaving the league.  I am guessing that ego and $$$ and the thrill of competition (most pro athletes love competition because they are the winners) makes it a powerful temptation.  Throw in the ease of gambling on your phone which is always in your hand, and I see your point x 10.
    • Freeling got some reps at RT when they gave Moton a rest day--I sorta hope Freeling gets brought along slowly as you describe.  It would be better for him for reasons you provide.  We have a really good problem.
