SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP)—Missing two starters due to injury, the Carolina Panthers have added depth at linebacker.

Carolina signed Kelvin Smith(notes) on Friday and released long-snapper Nick Sundberg. The move comes with Thomas Davis(notes) sidelined with a sprained right knee and Jon Beason(notes) out with a sore left hamstring.

It doesn't commute because it wasn't about our DT getting hurt.. The point he was making is quoted above.. Not because we lost Kemo...

What i was hinting was that we have lost our starting DT for the season that is a known fact. Both Davis and Beason have injuries that most likely want have them miss a single reg season game. So to me we dont need to waste our time, roster spot, or more seriously our limited cap space on a LB that will almost certainly not make the 53. I'm not to worried about it seeing as it it is still early but we need to start bring in some serious competition at the DT position. It would be a need even if we hadn't lost Kemo now it is a necessity. The longer we wait the less time said players have to learn our system and there teammates.

And its compute not commute.

Then what DT would you bring in? Not many A listers just hanging around.

1st of all, thanks for your stewardship on pointing out my typo.. Everyone here appreciates you helping them figure out what it was that I was saying. :)

2nd, I understand your concern with wanting to fill a Kemo replacement, but the article clearly mentions the CAMP FODDER is here for the LBers injured. So you're concern with roster spaces may be a little unwarranted.

The reason being...it has more to do with having a body there for the players to have someone to practice against... Beason and Davis are sitting out some, so it is important that they bring in someone to fill the void for the time being... It has nothing to do with the seriousness of their injuries...

I point this out because the DT situation is irrelevant to this guy coming in...

This guy will be brought in regardless of us finding a DT... and don't worry about roster spots. We aren't going to waste one on him. It'll be okay. :)

Once we find a guy in FA worth bringing in, I'm sure we will.. I would imagine they are trying to see who they have in the mean time.. But roster spots and cap space doesn't have anything to do with this guy in particular..

    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
    • I don't really follow the team anymore due to a variety of reasons and consequently have largely stopped posting but I agree that this is a lovely website and community. This forum probably kept me around for years longer than I would've stuck otherwise because of how difficult it was to stop checking multiple times a day. Especially appreciate how lax the moderation tends to be compared to a lot of places, the crew here does a great job. Out of curiousity I decided to try making a new account (solely for testing purposes) to see what exactly is wrong with the sign up process. The issue seems to be that it never sends you an account verification email, thus making it impossible to complete registration. This is likely something to do with the email server upstream, hope it gets fixed. Also, lol
    • Uh oh, Nicole Tepper hugged him. In all seriousness though every time I see more about him my hopes get higher. Smart, great attitude, prototype size and measurables, and athletic. He could be a great one.
