"It's the toughest matchup in football," Ekuban said of keeping Williams and Stewart contained. "Because usually when you have a two-back system, you have one guy that's going to be a north- south power guy. The second guy's going to be your outside speed guy.

"But with those two backs, you're going to get the same thing. And if they have the lead, they're going to just keep pounding and pounding. It makes it challenging. There's no change in tempo with those backs."

And the numbers creep up on you. Carolina finished with 30 carries for 147 rushing yards. Williams (12 carries, 88 yards) and Stewart (16 for 52), as Ekuban feared, kept racing toward the Broncos line of scrimmage, getting just enough to keep moving the chains.

The above is SO TRUE...both are virtually the same type runners...they are not power and scatback. They are BOTH POWER and BOTH SCATBACK. Ridiculous combination...the defense NEVER catches a break

I give credit to Williams' hard work in the off season. Stewart is exactly what we drafted him to be, but Williams has been so much more than just a scat back/ outside runner. He's run up the middle as well as anyone in the league and is straight up flattening defenders upon contact.

I love Fox and Hurney for giving us these to backs, a very stout OL and keeping and outstanding blocker like Hoover around.

They're both young, both fresh (not a ton of carries during the season) and when it's the 4th quarter and we've run it 30 times already and neither back has broken 20 carries, it's tough to defend. We're still fresh in the 4th quarter. Our backs could run windsprints up and down the field. I can definitely see why that would be scary to face.

Great point! Both have the maturity to give credit to the OL and 45 and 87 when asked - nice to see that. Versus the implosion getting ready to happen in dallas due to the opposite of this!

I agree. I'm glad Williams & Stewart are becoming friends. It going to help our offense tremendously(sp?) with how they are working hard & are both great RBs.

It really is a great day to be a Panther fan...
