Godfrey not at fault in Bucs' first touchdown.

Again, fair point made by you. But if I may redirect. It seems to me that the safety position was created to keep from getting beat over the top. This may not be the case for this particular play but it just looks like Godfrey is unaware of the possibility that the play could go where it ends up going. His awareness is atrocious and if he's not put in exactly the right spot by the coaches he is utterly useless.

But no safety could likely make that play without a redirect.

And I want to say that when I say "don't know what is going on" I am not calling people dumb or anything like that. It is just that, even with coaches tape you don't know why certain things happen without knowing the calls or responsiblities.

Again, the specifics of the play are irrelevant. I know you're not calling anyone dumb. I'm with ya. We just differ on the abilities of one Charles Godfrey.

Pretty much.

Lets not focus on a huge third down stuff he made in open field 1 on 1.  No no, lets blame him for stuff because it is easier than blaming the guy at fault.

That seems to be the rationale.

They were both at fault though. So we should only blame White not the other guy at fault? Luke had bad coverage on a play AND forced the fumble that helped seal the win. See how easy that was?

We signed two new vet Safeties this offseason....don't really think our hand is forced with Godfrey.

The staff has always spoken highly of him.

Yes it was...he got bumped to S bc we needed a body to spell our vet S. Harper couldn't go a whole game yet.

They inserted someone who knew the D. Just a body.

Attributing all of Godfrey's mistakes to him covering for someone else is an argument we've been hearing since he was a rookie.

It's kind of like a guy who has a dozen failed relationships blaming all the failures on his girlfriends. The question becomes "What's the common element in all these stories?"

The common denominator is he is the safety and if CBs make a mistake he is the one left out to dry. And since he is closest guy to receiver we assume he made the mistake

The common denominator is every week of his career it is another excuse

He is NOT a S. If you suck at coverage and tackling....you aren't a S. Godfrey is weak at both

So it's never his fault?

That is a cop out. That is not what I said. I am saying that there are often times where he probably shoulders the blame when he shouldn't. Doesn't mean he has never made a mistake.

The other point is that without knowing who was supposed to do what it is very difficult and many times impossible for even the football saviest people to know who messed up.

Even if you take out the debatable ones....the number of Godfrey goofs is crazy. As a tackler and coverage assignments
