BREAKING:  Pete Prisco is an idiot

Panthers at 18, behind the likes of the Jets, Ravens, Chargers, Dolphins,

Steelers, Eagles, Cardinals, etc etc.

18 CAR.png Winning on the road without Cam Newton was impressive. The defense was suffocating against Tampa Bay for three-plus quarters.

9. Carolina Panthers (1-0, LW: 13)

Perhaps the front seven can carry this team to the playoffs again. That was a great effort on Sunday. Maybe their many limitations really won't matter.

Bleacher Report:  12

This Week: 12

Last Week: 16

Change: +4

With Cam Newton standing on the sidelines nursing an injured rib, the Carolina Panthers beat a team many (myself included) predicted would have a big season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers couldn't keep pace, though, and Carolina won 20-14.

The Panthers looked good, but the game ball goes to rookie wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin. The dropped passes at Florida State that caused Benjamin to fall in my rankings (No. 74 overall predraft) have been fixed thanks to Ricky Proehl's coaching and the receiver's hard work. Benjamin looks like a star in the making.

The Panthers defense remains impressive up front, and it was reigning Defensive Player of the Year Luke Kuechly securing the win with a forced fumble with a minute and change remaining in the game to protect a three-point lead.

The Panthers move up this week, and with a healthy Newton returning soon they could be a fixture in the top 10 again this year.

The next three games should tell us everything we need to know about this season. Really, we should already get a good glimpse of it this Sunday vs Detroit.

Not at all. Where were we last year after our first 4 games? Did they define our season?

Good or bad, the first quarter of the season can be misleading, especially when you factor in injuries.

Carolina Panthers (1-0) HIGH: 14 / LOW: 15
Despite the loss of Steve Smith, the Panthers wide receiver corps looks improved with the addition of rookie Kelvin Benjamin, who has already surfaced as Cam Newton’s No. 1 target. However, the real issue has been the poor play of the revamped offensive line.

We're a team that already know how good we are or can be. Not the same team last year that was still trying to find who we are since 2011. There's a difference.

Yep Prisco is dumb or he has a personal vendetta against Carolina for some strange reason.  We are the defending NFC South champs, just went on the road and won without our starting QB and our defense dominated just as they did all last season.  Yeah 18 seems about right.  SMH.

    • All I heard was uber rides, weight trainers, and t shirts??? Maybe some meals too........ What a monster and he should be tossed in a rusty wood chipper!!!1!11!!!!!
    • This is from 5 months ago. It was one or the other. Trade for one or draft one. We apparently called the Jets about Wilson. We also talked to the Seahawks about Metcalf. Drafting our own guy was the best course of action given the required investment. Regardless now is the time for Bryce Young to produce. We are fourth amongst all teams in cap spending on the OL. Back to back first round picks at WR and multiple young TE draft picks now. Very solid and respectable backfield. New pieces across the defense. The time is now.
    • That was just the worst time to have their worst game of the season. One key deal was the broncos guess the Panthers would NOT change any plays or flow to the game. Another key point overlook that bronco defense was truly one of the best in the NFL history. It was the best defense the Panthers faced that year, by far. They were not ready for it, but broncos were ready for the Panthers. Mix in that bad luck, poor refs showcase, and this is the golden boys last game........ Panthers needed to win by 20 and the broncos defense was not going to allow that.  Panthers were the favorites and I believe they also thought that it was going to easier than them destroying NFC playoff teams as they marched to the SB. I've heard darin Gantt say the play calls were to give remmers help, but for some reason the team never did it. During the year they never had that problem, so maybe never practiced giving help via TE/RB, or WR chip. Cam was superman that year, no need for any adjustments...... Until you meet a legendary defense with studs at all levels, Think about it, Peyton was throwing wingless dunks for the whole season, the defense had to carry his corpse to the SB. That's how good they were, not many defense are able to get to the playoffs and win a SB without decent QB play. If you recall the beginning of that defense took Tim Teblows and his non-throwing arse to the playoffs couple years before. That's insane the level of defense needed to overcome.
