PFT: NFL may suspend Hardy

Previously, the NFL had decided not to penalize Hardy because Hardy’s legal case has not been resolved. He still hasn’t had a trial before a jury; his trial before a judge was under North Carolina criminal procedure was so preliminary and cursory that a transcript isn’t prepared unless the defendant chooses to hire a court reporter. (In this case, Hardy did.)

If I had to guess, I think the NFLPA will intervene if he is suspended without pay. They'll argue that nothing has changed with the facts of the case or Hardy's legal status, so why suspend him now instead of months ago? And I think they have a case honestly. 

 

Sucks for the team, they'll have to deactivate him but still pay him $770k per game.

Him being suspended without pay might be one of the better resolutions to this for the team.

 

Cut your losses, move on and take it as a lesson in not to be so invested in morons.

You have the Vikings playing AP and the Niners with a guy who beat his wife in front of other people (aka multiple witnesses) and the NFL is going to go after the guy with the least evidence against him (aside from a biased guilty verdict that was completely based on hearsay, unreliable testimony, and conjecture). Yes, he may be getting railroaded by media pressure. On the other hand, after agreeing to take $13 million of the Panther's money, he chose to hang out with a coked up woman, let her into his house, show off his guns, etc.

 

I'm not one to criticize any one of the above behaviors depending on the context. But when you've just been paid that kind of money, the least you could be expected to do is act responsibly, And no one can argue he was acting responsibly.

 

The person to get pissed at is Hardy. Not the judge, not the fuged up media, not the league office.

I hope the NFLPA does get involved.  Let the media poo on them for awhile.  

 

This is a case where they can actually stand up for one of their members and fulfill their function as a union, but they have done nothing.

Hardy put himself in a bad situation but at this point it's "he said she said." The primary witness for the prosecution it sounds like is someone making a phone call from a different unit. Holder didn't go to the hospital immediately following the incident and there are no injuries on file (again just what I heard). That said...if the NFL suspends Hardy for something based on ESPN outcry and he is found not guilty by a jury he is going to have a mega lawsuit against them and ESPN for defamation among other things...

ESPN IMO has done a piss poor job of covering both sides of this story. But then again...if you did that you just wouldn't have as juicy a story. I have no clue if Hardy committed a crime or not...that is what is supposed to be determined during a trial. Seems like that is something that society has basically thrown to the side in certain issues.

Hardy definitely made some stupid decisions, and I was pretty sure this was his last year as a Panther even if this hadn't happened...but if he's innocent then I want his services to our team for this season. Media hype and flaming shouldn't direct how this thing goes, but of course thats how it always works.
