Panthers Front Office has lost it!

Let it be known that the Panthers wanted no part in Hardy's removal from the team. The league pulled a Gettleman and gave an offer that could not be refused.

I don't know how anyone could watch that presser, see the way Gettleman and Rivera looked and talked, and come to any conclusion other than that they were forced into this.

Rivera especially looked utterly pissed off by the end of it.

The Panthers didn't want to suspend him.

The NFL wanted him out of the way.

And we wouldn't have for 3 more weeks, since we can do that inactive thing only 4 times to a player who can reasonably expect to start. Then suspension would have been their only other choice besides letting him play. Since both options have serious problems attached to either one (union grievance/lawsuit) (public outrage/boycotts), glad to see the commish give the team an out.

It's the least he could do.

He still gets his 13.1, which at the end of the week, that's all he really cares about.  Why feel sorry for a guy who put the team in this situation?  Sure, blame the media for their biased reporting, but blaming the Panthers for caving to NFL and sponsor pressure, which btw means MUCH MORE than 13.1M, is ridiculous.

Per what Rivera said last week - and Gettleman's words today - they weren't going to deactivate him or suspend him.

Rivera said he'd be playing this week.

People need to read in between the lines. We caved to Goddell, not media pressure. Goddell is trying to save his job right now and make no mistake about it we are the fall guy for that. Unbelievable.

Exactly. It's all about saving Goodell's job. The owners love their little puppet and will do whatever it takes to protect and save him. I want him gone. Let us hope that the media pressure finally turns where it should, on the commissioner. He screwed up the rice situation so badly that we now have a tsunami overwhelming the league and they are incapable of doing the right thing. They are unable to look at each case individually and therefore justice is impossible.

They actually said his playing status would be determined later in the week. He would still practice, just not sure if he'd suit up for the game.

While what you said isn't 100% wrong! it isn't 100% right either.

Yes there was a hearing in front of a single judge.

That judged listened to both sides and found it necessary to find GH guilty.

Upon that verdict, confident that a jury trial would exonerate him, Hardy appealed the judges decision.

Once the appeal was filled and a jury trial was requested the bench trial verdict of "guilty" is not just set aside, it is wiped away.

This must be done because of the double jeopardy laws. You cannot be tried or convicted of the same crime twice.

Yes, and that initial single judges ruling of guilty is why this is different then someone who hasn't been to cpurt or was initially found innocent. That's all the league needs.

Plus, with all these women that are now in places of power, this poo is getting out of hand. I do think a professional athlete should be held to higher standards, but this latest poo is just too much.

Goodell should just come out and say Hardy gets 6 game suspension, if found innocent will not be interpreted as 1st offense.

BOOM done.

Exactly. Hardy gets the max 6 game suspension without pay, retroactive to last week. If he is found not guilty he gets his game checks back and doesn't have a NFL DV strike against him.

It satisfies the clueless masses, GH gets paid if found innocent, and the only people that get fuged are his Panther teammates and fans.

    • I was watching a YouTube and it was said that scout and GM insider types were saying the NIL had killed rounds 4-7. I don’t know that I buy it, seems like it might for a year or maybe two but then those guys have to move on.  NCAA is apparently about to give 5 years of eligibility. It is gonna skew those entrants older maybe.
    • Miller being less raw and more pro ready makes sense of why they picked him. With us having a capable starter in Walker the lower floor higher ceiling player makes sense for us as well. I agree with that.
    • I'm from Michigan and have had this discussion with my Lions friends, and they all agree with me, they were never going to take Freeling over Miller.  As, yes, you are correct, they could have left Sewell at RT and taken Freeling, but they are in a SB contention window right now. An OL with Freeling at LT and Sewell at RT is not as strong as Sewell at LT and Miller at RT would be for this upcoming season and likely at least next year as well. 5 years it could be looked back upon as a long term "mistake" to take Miller over Freeling, but for a franchise like the Lions, you can't worry about the long term when you have current SB aspirations.  It's all about maximizing their current SB window over the next 1-3 years. And it's not about style, it's about day 1 readiness, and a lot of "experts" aren't even sure if Freeling is ready to play Week 1 yet at the position he's used to, let alone switching to a side he hasn't played before, but a career starting RT is going to be more than ready to fill that role for them Week 1. I'm 100% convinced that if our draft positioning was swapped, we'd have still taken Freeling, they'd have still taken Miller, and both teams would have got the OT that they preferred due to what each team needs right now and what their current realistic aspirations are for the 2026 season. We're in a position where we can let our drafted OT sit and learn for a bit, they needed a week 1 starter, for me that's where this discussion becomes very easy to understand why each team took the player they did.
