The reset button needs to be hit in 2015

Lol, this isn't about Dave no liking Cam, it's about how he's handled the poo other than Cam. Which, is to say, awful. Could he do more to help Cam out? Yeah, absolutely. Getting rid of Shula would be the perfect #1 on that list, but, it's not about that. It's about fielding the best team possible.

No one here can tell me that Byron Bell was the best option out there for LT.

IMO there are 4 positions you splurge on & they have a rank

1. QB

2. MLB

3. LT

4. DE

This is not only my opinion, but along the lines of Bill Polian's opinion as well... This why I was in the boat of letting Hardy test free agency & signing Jared Valdheer instead even before this whole assault nonsense...

On the good side we are absolutely set at the top two positions for years to come, but now we are fugged at LT & DE... Hopefully Ealy comes along quicker than most DEs coming out of college cause we need him & we need a LT via draft/trade asap

Here is an interesting set of tweets from Bill Voth (@BlackBlueReview) this afternoon:

HSxSaCS.png

Just look at that for a second. That's not even including the disaster (I think it's a bigger deal than it is) Steve Smith interview that was given this morning on Bustin' Loose.

That series of tweets is, in a nutshell, what we need to do next season; we need to hit the reset button. I don't mean we need to fire Shula and get a LT. No. I think we need to absolutely start fresh. The first thing I would do, quite honestly, is fire Gettleman.

Why fire Gettleman? It's been well-documented so far this season that our offensive line hasn't improved. In fact, with the retirement of Gross and Wharton, it's gotten much worse. All offseason, the fans, the media*, everyone kept saying how we needed to improve the offensive line (*when I say media, I mean people that know what's going on, not the 'NO WRs!@!@!!!!!@!~~!!!@ crowd.), yet there was nothing done about it. In fact, we were spoon fed a bunch of bullshit about how Byron Bell was going to be a fantastic LT because HE'S fuging LEFT HANDED AND IF YOU HAVE HALF A BRAIN YOU SHOULD KNOW LEFT HANDED PEOPLE ARE BEST LTs! Well, that's working out great, isn't it? In fact, the first offensive snap against the Ravens, Bell gave up a QB pressure to Suggs. The first. Against a dude who had ZERO sacks going into the game.

Other than that, there is the exodus of WRs, which I think is leaving us better than we were, so I'm not going to talk about losing guys like LaFell (who sucks), Hixon (who did nothing here other than wear a Panthers' jersey and make one single snazzy memorable play), and Ginn (whose contributions are mostly missed on special teams, anyways). Or the exodus of safeties, which I understand because of financial reasons (also, Mitchell is 1000% better than DeCoud, at least, he is in this defense.)

The thing that should give Gettleman the ax is all of those things added together, compounded by the fact that he mishandled the Steve Smith situation more than any other GM I've ever seen handle something. Especially today, after Steve Smith went on air and basically ripped Gettleman a new one for the handling of the situation. Maybe Smitty is a sore loser. Maybe he's just Smitty. Or maybe he really did have something left and he used our game against the Ravens as a soap box to prove it. "fug you, Gettleman" is basically what Smitty said today.

But it didn't stop there. Smitty also went after Rivera. Ah, Rivera. The ever-positive, "player's coach". Well, Smitty made sure to say that "player's coach" nonsense was bullshit, and he called him on it. Rivera, the guy who shoves players into his doghouse for no other reason than, "meh, I don't really like that guy. I'm going to keep him around because he works hard, by good lord he's not seeing the field anytime soon". Then, he makes a move like benching Melvin White in favor of Josh "Personal Foul" Norman, because White lost his composure. You know, Josh Norman. The guy who is always borderline to a personal foul. Josh Norman, the guy who jumps offsides on a field goal attempt to give the offense some more shots at the end zone.

Then there's the rest of the coaching staff. My God. Wtf is up with those trained monkeys? I'm sure that Chip Kelly shits out a better gameplan than Mike Shula has ever masterfully crafted. There's loads of offensive geniuses out there. For fug's sake, look at Gary Kubiak running the offense in Baltimore. Or how about the guy we interviewed in Hue Jackson, and was like, no thanks, we've got Shula! SOMEONE ON OUR TEAM AGREED THAT SHULA WAS A BETTER OPTION THAN HUE JACKSON. WHAT THE HOLY fug IS GOING ON IN THE FRONT OFFICE?!

Basically, I would strip this team down to its very core, which I'm not even sure what it is. I think there's only five or so players worth keep around, and everyone else can go bye-bye. Cam, Luke, Benji, Olsen, Davis (though, to be fair, I don't know how much longer Davis has left, and that's not a knock on the guy. Father Time is undefeated.) and before, I would've said Kalil, but I'm not even sure that's the case anymore. Kalil has given up 2 sacks so far this season, and over a handful of QB pressures. IN 4 GAMES. The biggest concern, is HALF OF THOSE GAMES WERE PLAYED AGAINST 34 DEFENSES. He's was defending the NT! So, truly, he's only faced two teams with pass-rushing UTs.

I would keep those pieces and tear the rest of the team apart. Cap hits? fug them. Start from scratch. Get these old, unhealthy players off the team. Bring in new blood. Trade players for draft picks, even if they are 6th and 7th round draft picks. Keep the core, and for the love of God, PLEASE BUILD AROUND CAM. Stop trying to build a team in spite of Cam. Make him the center piece. Let him show his true skills. Get rid of Stoic Ron and say adios to John Matsko and poo offensive line. Keep The Dark Lord Ricky Proehl and develop from there.

TL;DR

I don't even understand what you said. And we actually took a cap hit for releasing Smitty.

Also, do I want Hurney back? Not a chance. It's not like it's Hurney or Gettleman. There's tons of other options.

And absolutely I understand about the cap. That doesn't explain why we chose shula over jackson.

Not even Mr. touchdown.

What to that guy, anyway?

I think I looked at the wrong name, my mistake. He's still here, he goes under 4corners, he's the guy calling Gettleman "Dollar Tree Dave".

Regardless, he's not really someone you want to be associated with when it comes to creating threads.

Anyways, on with the gif's....

    • This is always a non-story by the time camp begins.
    • I've really only begun to pay attention this week being that training camp is looming, so I was personally caught off guard by the fact that Nic Scourton remains unsigned. That's not necessarily bad news, but it's not necessarily good news either. Apparently it's a thing with this year's draft class. "Of the 32 players selected in the second-round, 30 remained unsigned and the clock is ticking. "Already we've seen one second-round pick hold out from the start of training camp with that player being Los Angeles Chargers' wide receiver Tre Harris. Harris did not report with the rest of the Chargers' rookies on Saturday due to his contract situation, a issue that could impact nearly every other team in the league. "For the Panthers, defensive end Nic Scourton is the player to watch for when rookies start showing back up to the team facilities next week. "The 51st overall pick is one of the 30 second-rounders who has yet to sign their rookie contract and the reason why is due to the other two that have actually signed. "Cleveland Browns' linebacker Carson Schwesinger and Houston Texans' wide receiver Jayden Higgins each signed fully guaranteed contracts as the first and second players drafted in the second-round. Prior to this year, second-round picks never received a fully guaranteed deal, only players selected in the first-round." https://atozsports.com/nfl/carolina-panthers-news/panthers-nic-scourton-contract-second-round-pick-training-camp-hold-out-tre-harris/ So, I suppose we'll see what's what pretty soon. It's definitely something to monitor.
    • overwhelming majority of kids in travel ball aren't getting scholarships though because most teams are rec caliber (and not watched by scouts)    and parents/leagues sort of helped create this system and narrative IMO where travel ball is now oversaturated and most of it is simply expensive rec ball.  is travel beneficial for some athletes to get more exposure? Sure. The ones travel actually existed for.   I still think travel has expanded entirely too broad at this stage......where they will now have 5 teams per year in your backyard area pending they can get parents to write those checks.   Ain't no scout ever laying eyes on 90%+ of the kids in travel ball at this stage of where it has morphed into.
