We essentially have Cam for three more seasons, before he could even think about free agency. We'd just have to use two franchise tags in a row.

Why would a #1 overall pick who's lived up to it for the most part be interested in the same contract as guys who weren't #1 overall? In the old system he would've already gotten his top pick money. Since he hasn't, there you go.

This report came out this summer after CK signed his deal. Someone in the Newton camp (probably his agent) or someone in the front office passed the word that Cam was looking for a more traditional contract structure like those of Flacco or Cutler as opposed to one like CK and AD signed.
