Did both teams lose?

I mean wins are what count, right?  If this game had been against another NFC team at least we could say well a tie is better than a loss because that other team would have been a game up now had they won.  But since this game was played with two teams from different conferences both teams lose with a tie.

So I'm really confused how to feel about this game.

If either team wins their division or makes the playoffs by half a game I would consider it a win

I wonder how often that happens?  I don't really keep up with who gets in by how much.

I'm still confused how a tie might benefit us here, can someone lay out a plausible scenario?

Looking at it objectively, Cincy fans have to feel a little worse than we do.  They tied at home to a team they felt they would beat, and they tied because they missed a relatively easy fg at the end of ot.

We can criticize Rivera, Cotchery, kick coverage, the offense, the defense etc... but if Gano had missed that fg, we would be ready to shoot Gano.

Yeah, I gotta agree...this tie was definitely worse for Cinci. Kicker has to be kicking himself...and missing.

Say the Saints go 10-6 and we go 10-5-1.  We are automatically ahead of them for the divisional crown by half a game.  It eliminates the winner of the division coming down to tie-breaker scenario (e.g: both teams are tied at 10-6, tie breaker would be  head-to-head, divisional record, then conference record, etc etc).

After further review, a tie is perfectly fine and here is why. We would be in the same EXACT situation in the NFCS had we won or tied. A tie puts us at 3-2-1, the Bucs are 1-4, Saints 2-3 and Falcons 2-4. What does that mean?! It means we are still up 2 games in the division and it means if the worst case scenario next week happens which is us losing and the Saints winning still keeps up at the top of the NFCs because we win conference wins tiebreaker over the Saints since we are 3-0 in the NFC.

Also keep in mind, if we finish 8-7-1 and say the Saints or Falcons go 8-8, we still win the NFCS because they would have one more loss than us and by default we win the division. Even better, say we go 9-6-1 and either the Falcons or Saints goes 9-7, we still win the NFCS by default because we would have less losses.

So if we went 4-2 today we would still be in the same exact position, up 2 games in the NFCs and worst case scenario next week has us still on top of the NFCs. In essence us tying today puts in the same exact position as if we where 4-2, we are all just upset is more mental than anything but in reality, a tie would have put us in the same exact position in thr NFCs had we won

    • lmao that's a good point; but at the same time I think and HOPE Canales learned from how he operated last year, only giving us one real look against the Bills that had people shouting 'Super Bowl'...only to come out flat.
    • I mean the whole defense was trash, he was at least trying. Besides if you put a all-pro among 10 PSers, that all-world will look human. It's very hard to judge very bad units and find the best players among them. Horn and Mjack played well too, there was 0 pass rush and -1777784 run defense.
    • I was looking back and seen Evan Neal has made the switch to OG after awful years at OT.......I wanted him over Icky for his tricep alone..... I was 100% stroud too, I was super pissed about his record setting and playoff leading start......I had arich vastly over the midget BY too. But right now, BY is about the only one on the up&up. The Texans used lots of prime draft capital to help Stroud.  It's still not ready. But if you're honestly about past drafts, these GMs are not alone in making mistakes.  I still feel they should stayed put and allowed Carter to fall in their lap, but best I know Tepper had the worst rage about landing a QB for the past 5 years. The deal is with the correct coaching staff, Baker or darnold would still be here....Baker has signed 3 years for 100 million, which is a great NFL QB contract. Tepper hiring rhule and his shitty Baylor/temple staff was a massive setback given rhule was in control too. Then panic set in an d fitteerererererer had to make a winner and find a QB. Ugh.....I hope they are back...
