What do you make of that stat? The defense was never that bad in early 1995 or 2001 or 2010, but yet we've managed to go 1-2-1 over those 4 games due to Cam. We had arguably our best defense in team history last year, but now we're a Luke Kuechly injury away from having arguably our worst ever. Is the talent drop-off between Hardy and Addison and Mike Mitchell and DeCoud really THAT dramatic? 

 

Yes, Gettleman built this year's defense around a solid pass rush, but did he never once stop to think what would happen if Hardy went down early in the season? Never thought about acquiring someone in the secondary with even MEDIOCRE coverage skills?

My heart will always be defensive, but I have no choice but to root for the offense this year.  The defense not only has none, but should be considered criminally liable for at the very least emotional/psychological anguish, considering that they're failing to execute practically anything well.  Yes, at times, they get stops, but largely for the last four games they're out there to line up against the offense and flail around like cardboard cutouts. 

 

The priority this offseason has to be the offensive line and the secondary.  There can't be any other acceptable course of action.

We suck on D and special team, D can't be consistent and our special team gives up big plays.

Points don't tell the whole story.  Turnovers on offense and bad special teams play can lead to easy points.

Just when I thought we might be able to sign Hardy on the cheap. There's no way that he doesn't know this, and or use it as leverage. All of this is on the premise that he'd be welcomed back of course. If say he's very very essential to having a Top D.

I would feel bad about our current situation but you look around the NFL and see teams win one week, blown out the next. The rules in the NFL favor the passing game so much, it's folly to depend on your defense and running game.

 

When you run the ball, almost every possible penalty is on the offense. When you pass, it's the opposite. 

 

And let's be clear about something, we haven't played a bad QB since week 1. Flacco, Roethlisberger, Stafford, Cutler, and Dalton are all good enough to expose a defense.

It's sad man. A once feared defense just 5 weeks ago is now the softest defense in the NFL. Once I saw our secondary literally running away from contact, I almost shed a tear. Luke, TD, Star, and KK are the only ones worth mentioning, and Star isn't even playing that good.

DeCoud is terrible and can't tackle. Takes bad angles.
