Bill Cowher calls Steelers 'soft'

Hines Ward agrees: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

“I never thought I would say these words,” former coach Bill Cowher said on CBS-TV, “but Pittsburgh has gotten soft.” He called them “finesse on offense, soft on defense.”

He was not alone. Hines Ward, their all-time leading receiver, chimed in on NBC-TV.

“They’re very close to hitting that panic button … The defense looks soft. Guys are just able to run the ball up and down the field. I look at their personnel; they can’t cover anybody in the secondary. Offensively, I thought I’d never say it, but the Steelers are a finesse offense right now. I don’t even know who these guys are.”

Mike Tomlin responds...

Tomlin calls criticism 'elevator music'

“I don’t worry about that. That’s elevator music as far as I’m concerned,” Tomlin said, via ESPN.com. “I’m concerned about the things that are significant and that’s the men inside this organization right now and how they prepare and how they play. Love those guys, but those guys are on the outside looking in.”

Sports Illustrated:

"If there are any plans here to snap out of what has been two-plus years of perfect mediocrity -- 8-8 in 2012, 8-8 in '13, 3-3 so far in '14 -- it has to begin when this upcoming home stretch concludes. Pittsburgh next plays three straight games at home (Houston on MNF, Indianapolis, Baltimore) before visiting the Jets and Titans."

Not the worst WR on the roster, same with Amare Barno for the EDGEs Seems like they're releasing bubble guys early instead of waiting until cut day so  other guys get a shot   Mike Kaye @mike_e_kaye · 1h Austin Corbett anchors very well at center and Andy Dalton zooms the ball over the middle to Jimmy Horn on a deep cross for a TD in 11s. Shemar Bartholomew with a pick on Bryce Young on the next play.    Gabe McDonald @GabeMcDonald_ · 1h #Panthers CB Shemar Bartholomew with a solid day so far. Had a PBU on the first series of the second period of 11 on 11 and just started the third series with an INT on a Bryce Young pass.   Joe Person @josephperson · 1h Matthew Wright was 3-5. Last one clanged off the right upright.    Edgar Salmingo, Jr. ✌🏽 @PanthersAnalyst · 1h Looks like it was the passing focused 11 on 11 session Hunter Renfrow and Jimmy Horn, Jr., made big plays again   have a day Shemar Joe Person @josephperson · 1h Bryce Young airs one out to Jalen Coker. Tight coverage by Shemar Bartholomew. Coker couldn’t come down with it. 11v11
