@Mr. Scot - How long until you start preparing your Head Coach Candidate write-ups?

Honestly, if we have a losing season, I think Ron should be canned. Our team is so inconsistent, one season, a power house on offense, the next a flop. Another season a jaggernaut on defense, the next a flop. That is a sign of someone who does not know what he is doing. There is no way both units should keep flactuating like that.

Besides, one winning season out of four is mediocre.

Ron Rivera is still owed north of 15 million dollars guaranteed.

He ain't going nowhere.

Dom Capers was fired two years into a ten year extension.

If the team is enough of a mess by season's end, I believe Rivera will be fired.

I don't know that it's to that level yet, but with each passing week I see more potential of it getting there.

I don't think a losing season is enough.

But an embarrassment of a season might be.

A losing season should be enough. Having just one winning season out of four is more than enough to tell us what he is all about. Any coach can give a littany of reasons why they couldn't win on the season. It's up to the owner to accept that level of mediocrity or not. I know I wouldn't.

we're certainly headed for embarrassment! sadly Cam could walk and honestly he should weigh the coaching direction in his decision. In fact, coaching, protection, contract, and how the front office addresses the needs that will solidify the team.

all i know is NO MIKE SMITH!

Jerry Richardson has always had a preference for 'growing your own star' versus hiring someone else's.  I think the bad experience with George Seifert probably reinforced that idea.

My worry though: He also has a preference for defensive coaches, and I think the best candidate this coming season is probably an offensive coach.

A lot depends on how much leeway he'd give Gettleman (Steve Smith's release would indicate a lot).  The success Gettleman most recently was part of was with an offensive coach (Coughlin).

Honestly, I could be talked into it myself just based on what I've seen already.

I think it'd take something more to convince Jerry Richardson though.

Record notwithstanding, I'm embarrassed by this season.

Full disclosure though, I wasn't the world's biggest advocate of keeping Rivera before last season.

I feared last season might be an aberration but hoped it wasn't.  Right now my fears look smarter than my hopes.

Best to look for possible OC options...   since I fully believe that Rivera's job will be saved for another year when he tosses Shula out.....and while I know he probably likes Shula a lot, but  if it comes down to him or Shula......

true... in reference to Gettleman, him making some form of decision about RR "assuming" the season continues as is will certainly tell us much about who he really is. at the very least, he could fire Shula in the this season "assuming" we continue as is. smh... there is a thin line between unique intelligence and ridiculous. Gettleman is bordering both. RR has made it clear just based on his staff and the power allowed to them.

    • The Bucs waived shilo sanders after he got ejected.
    • I'm just tired of ppl saying he's so accurate and then have to see recievers slow down to recieve the ball, ruining any chance at YAC
    • Some people will really look at stuff like this and say "no more excuses" but then make excuses to try and explain away the validity of big-time throws. 🙃   Back on topic though, as I mentioned in the other AT thread earlier, I hope that the team is still exploring the deal. If the Vikings want the Panthers to take on some of the salary, then it had better be at worst a 4th-round pick (though I imagine Dan angling for a 3rd). If they're willing to take on all of it, then maybe at worst a 5th. Tough pill to swallow, giving up a 4th for a 35yr old WR, but if MIN believes they can have similar success behind McCarthy then it could be a smart deal for them. Hell, if AT has any gas in the tank and gives them a 1yr sweetheart deal to close out at home, even better for Minnesota. Yea, Bryce loses his best and most reliable WR. Hunter Renfrow though isn't what I would call a huge step down though (if he's as advertised throughout camp), and it gives more reps to TMac + XL + Coker. This season is all about continued development and answering some of the looming questions (Is Bryce the guy? Is Evero the DC going fwd? How do the young WRs develop? How long does it take this defense to bounce back from being historically awful?).
