The Panthers are 14-5-1 over their last 20 games...

After reading everyone's hype about how easy the schedule is going forward, I took a look. There IS actually something to that. I made a spreadsheet (yes I'm a nerd) with rolling strength of schedules for each team. I tried to attach it, but it didn't work.

Either way, based on opponent wins, the second half of the season looks like this...

Panthers - 23

Falcons - 30

Bucs - 29

Saints - 27

Not too bad...

When I first read this I was all like Cool you're right and things aren't all bad. But I'm very easily influenced so when someone else said we've only won 1 of the last six games I realized that our team really sucks. Thanks for you trying to polish a turd but I guess the bottom line is that things are going the wrong way for our team.

Everyone is welcome to jump ship and call for the entire staff and front office to be executed, but not only is there precedent for teams to shrug off poor starts and bad stretches to make the playoffs, there is even recent precedent for teams to teams to shrug off poor starts and bad stretches and make it to the Super Bowl...and in one case, win the Super Bowl.

The 2008 Cardinals started the season 2-2, went through a stretch where they were 1-4, lost four of their final 6 games and finished the season 9-7.

They made the playoffs, destroyed the Panthers on the road and ended up losing to the Steelers in a pretty thrilling Super Bowl.

The 2010 Packers started the season 3-3 and went through two different stretches during the season in which they were 1-3. They finished 10-6, made the playoffs, won 3 playoff games on the road and won the Super Bowl.

I am not comparing the current Panther squad to either of these teams, but it does illustrate how poor starts and bad stretches can and have been overcome.

If Ron Rivera and his staff can overcome the offseason personnel losses which really could not be addressed because of long term cap issues, can whether the rash of injuries, the Hardy debacle and can find a way finish the rest of this season 5-3 or better, I say that not only should they not be fired. They should be awarded medals.

People are funny acting like we have an easier schedule when we'll be the easiest team any team we play will play against all year.

Precisely.  Our schedule is "easy" yes but the fact that we suck kind of negates that.  We are 25th in the league in point differential.  We are a terrible football team led by a terrible head coach.

This isn't me being pessimistic.  I think I'm probably one of the most optimistic people here.  But just being real.  Right now our schedule being easy doesn't matter because as it stands now we are looked as a fairly easy opponent to play relative to the rest of the NFL.
