Understanding Cam's situation

how many times. i saw twice.

no doubt AT ALL cam had an awful game. but people are acting like this is the norm. it's not.

In the great words used by TRG...."rhetorical question."

I'm not denying Cam's physical ability or potential.  I'm arguing his consistency and his contract numbers based on the fact that he's been very enigmatic.

and i'm arguing that he isn't getting a fair representation because of the following.

-o-line struggles that need to be compensated taking out most of his checkdowns and #1 reciever (greg olsen, shula mistake)

-shouldering the entire load of the offense, can't lean on a run game on off days. hes expected to be the rushing and passing star

Cam had an absolutely dreadful game thursday. He was off. and badly. but when you have nothing else to lean on and no options in the passing game to get him in a groove. this is what happens.

Now people are coming out of the woodwork to say he has zero awareness and zero anticipation. He's hot and cold (he is but not to the extreme people are representing).

two fuging check downs the entire game with a qb without a doubt off his game. Check downs build momentum, check downs build rhythm and confidence.

there is so much more going on here, than once again people putting it squarely on Cam's shoulders. Which is ironic.

drew brees and aaron rodgers don't grow on trees.

just like cam newton skill set doesn't grow on trees. we just don't know how to utilize it properly and lack the talent around him to do so.

Everything that you say is valid TRG.  Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers don't grow on trees so unless your Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers QB's don't deserve their same money.

I don't dispute OL problems.

I don't dispute Shula's an asshat.

I don't hate Cam.  I want him to make me eat a fugload of crow is what I want.

By your own admittance of him under performing this season....how can we justify handing him the largest contract in NFL history?....That's my beef.

If it's 15-17 mill a year fine.  At what point do we draw the line?

At what point do you say that's just simply to much for the results that we've gotten?

I know if I'm at a job and I'm hired to provide results and I don't....I'm not getting what I want.  Is that different here?

two schools of thought here

he should do a kaepernick type contract.

lol. no he's proved it already with lack of true building around him.

matt ryan type contract. thats what the report is.

thats 100 million and 60 guaranteed. I have no issues with that.

the only problem is. he is our rushing attack and our passing attack. that's where it will get tricky with negotiations.

We are currently allowing 26.2

His rookie year we allowed 26.8

you damn well know this 2014 defense is vastly better than 2011. We've had weird games of absurdness and games of dominance.

the mean remains the same. we are much better defensively with our pieces.

like we both agreed the offense helps the defense and the defense the offense. We haven't been a complete team in games many times this year. one has always hurt the other. and put one or the other in awful situations.

Do you think if Atlanta had to do it over again....would they give Matt Ryan the same deal?

we're not talking about matt ryan.

and yes i think they would.

you start from scratch and these types of qbs (ryan included) do not grow on trees.

the human population is so vast yet you only have a handful of humans that can do the things that these guys can do. And that is why you give them the big bucks. they can win you superbowls with proper drafting around them. And i don't just mean skill positions on O. I mean great drafting for the entire team.

    • Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.
    • At least we don't need to hear overreacting about towels ...
    • Actually there is, try being a Charlotte Hornets fan. I mean the team fuging moved at its peak and hasn't recovered since and that was 25 years ago
