They Gambled. They Lost. It's That Simple.

I will agree with you on the last part.

Hurney and Fox were always considered "a package deal". They should have been let go as a package too.

I normally wouldn't favor parting with both a head coach and a GM in the same season, but in that case it likely would have been best.

Yeah, I always though the Rivera era had an odd start with Hurney still here. Hey Ron welcome aboard, look at all my overpaid boys I love so much!!!! You let me know who you want to draft at QB and lets roll!

Never felt like a new start really.

But we can only really judge him on one of those three things. The depth chart has not been an issue because our bad starters have even worse backups. We really do not know how much input he actually has on roster decisions. I really believe that his influence is being overblown. Gettleman strikes me as someone who will listen to everyone's opinion but follows his own instincts in the end. And when it comes to the coaches Rivera definitely is fair game, but considering the love/hate relationship this fanbase has from week to week with everyone its hard to be absolute there either.

He started Melvin White over Josh Norman, Silatolu over Norwell and still hasn't made KK Short a full time starter, among other decisions.

I think Rivera can definitely be questioned on the depth chart.

Wasn't he the one who advocated for Norman to get more playing time? And benched White against the Ravens? And we know Norman's well-documented issues; half the board have hoped Norman would get cut at various times.

And I wouldn't be surprised at Silatolu getting the nod over a UDFA rookie who did not perform as well at LG as he did at RG.

And our d-line rotation makes the "starter" label meaningless. KK has 20 fewer snaps total than Star.

Everyone wants to find effigies to burn and jobs to be lost and players to be cut and rabble, rabble, rabble.

It boils down to one very simple reality: the front office (assign blame between coaches and GM as you wish) lacked the fiscal resources to address all areas of need and decided that the offensive line could hold up if necessary. It was a fatal gamble and they lost. There aren't any real schematic answers that fit with the offensive roster we currently have: we lack the offensive line to establish the running game and play action schemes our core philosophy is built around and other, less line-intensive schemes such as a dink-and-dunk WCO are entirely unsuited to the receiving corps we have.

So keep in mind between all of your hell-raising that before amputating every limb off the patient one should wonder if their broken ankle might be the cause that keeps them from walking.

In other words, winning wasn't a priority and neither was protecting your QB. You wrote all that just to repeat that same point I've been making since I started posting. Everyone criticizing the FO is doing it because of the reasons you think they shouldn't. Bottom line, you win games at the line of scrimmage. Gettleman with all of his talk of "hog mollies" decided not to make the OL a priority. In business, as in politics, as in life, resources will always be limited, so the only thing that matters is your "priorities." Him not thinking the OL was one means he should be getting blasted.

Norman was in his doghouse most of last year, and probably would have remained there had White not been abused.

    • Everyone knew the catch was secured and didn't move. That was clear to the entire audience. The only ones who thought it wasn't a catch were in the NYC home office. They knew they'd just offer an apology the next day.
    • NEVER FORGET!!!!   Canales was on no one's radar. Tepper couldn't get anyone to come here. He was all in on Ben Johnson. Nobody wants to work with Tepper, however Canales tenure may prove important for the next guy. This guy still has no idea what he's doing.
    • The 4th down play was poor execution by Chuba. He didn't want to get physical like Rico and cut North South to lean on his blocks from Tremble and Ekwonu for half a yard. Also, the 3rd down play before that Bryce audibled out to a QB run and almost got the 1st down was on Chuba for not knowing the play call leading to poor execution. You can see Chuba's confusion when Bryce had to realign him. Then Chuba thought he was getting the handoff and was slow to develop his double team on the DE with Tremble. Then Chuba hesitated on pushing the block and just ran to the sideline making Bryce have to loop around him. This pulled the DE away from Tremble forcing Chuba to chip on the DE late and leaving the safety as a free defender. Chuba was suppose to double down on the DE to let Tremble peel off to the safety. This allows Bryce to set up his run to the inside or outside after the safety commits. You can also see Tremble walk over to talk to Chuba after the play and Chuba shrugs which tells me he didn't know what to do. The audible would have worked on 3rd and the dive would have worked on 4th. The plays were good calls and drawn up well. The question is why was Chuba unprepared for those plays in two critical back to back plays? I like Chuba as a 1st down RB and passing downs, but I have always seen him lacking the power and vision to be a short yardage power back. Chuba didn't come prepared for the Saints game or he was thrown into a position at the 3 spot that he was never prepared for.
