BBR breaks down Williams vs Stewart

Mr. Scot

*sigh* Neither player is being used to their strengths due to idiot play calling and a poorly built roster.

Rivera isn't capable of many things, especially in game.

again. that is not the issue. the issue is what we have at hand. we have a poor o-line. stew gives us the best chance. this is being realistic

If RB A runs for 10 yards and RB B runs for 10.....that doesn't mean they are equally good. Football is more than stats. Same for WRs. DEs. Whatever. Stats don't tell you what really happens

Lot of QBs have comparable stats too that aren't comparable. Football goes beyond a boxscore stat

Yep and our backs have totally diff styles, one tries to avoid contact, one doesn't, then there is a back like Marshawn Lynch that delivers the blow himself.

But 10 yards is still 10 yards.

There are no run playcalls that work when you have an OL that sucks.

What play do you want him to call for Williams? What magic playcall allows Williams to not be contacted by a defender? He also doesnt have speed to run sweeps/toss and turn the corner. He needs a badass OL and a lead blocker to put him downfield.....and there are about 50 RBs in the NFL that can excel with that

Stewart is being used to his strength. He is running hard and breaking tackles between the tackles. There is no OL so he starts breaking them at the line of scrimmage instead of 3-5 yards downfield.

10 yards is 10 yards.

If RGIII throws a dink screen pass and his WR jukes 2 defenders and goes 10 yards.....it is a 10 yard pass play.

If Peyton Manning, throws one in air against perfect coverage in a window only his WR could catch it....it still counts as just a 10 yard pass. Worth no more than RGIII's.

They weren't the same play. Didn't show the same talent. One 10 yarder was much more impressive by the QB than the other

I guess you missed the poorly built roster part.

And whether it's 2nd and 8 yards to go or 2nd and 7.5 yards to go means jack squat in the scheme of things when Cam gets killed when he tries to pass.

Look, ask BBR to illustrate the other 9 runs versus the Iggles when he totaled 19 yards and maybe you'll get it.

I already told you go check what 28 did in the first half vs 34. 28 needed the ball.

OL went full meltdown in the 2nd half. When it gets bad it snowballs. Snowballed big time. Maybe 28 and lesser crappy RB play he was offering could of helped before it became an avalanche of suck

First half

4 yard

1 yard + fumble

4 yard

-2 yard

4 yard

7 yard

1 yard run

1 yard run

vs

4 yard

4 yard

3 yard

2 yard - inside the 5 goal work

1 yard TD run - inside the 5 goal work

6 yard run

10 yard run

That was the first half. As you can see....what "hurt" Stewart's ypc in the first half was GOAL work. He had 2 carries inside the 4. Eye test matters.

That is why you ca't n just use a boxscore stat. Stewart's worst first half run was 3 yards if you exclude his 2 goal carries scoring our 1 TD....bc they weren't bad runs. Stewart had zero bad runs in the first half. Williams 4 bad runs. Eye test > boxscore

    • Totally.  They had a guy starred on their boards that made it in trade worthy range. The risk was totally worth it.  Our case was the classic of a franchise not having a QB, do what you can to get one.  That often results being thrust into a bad situation, putting crazy pressure on 1 guy, and it becomes even worse when he's not that great.  But if we find ourselves just a few spots behind a guy we really like, I don't see a problem.   We just have to see how the season shakes out and enjoy this roller coaster.  It's not pretty at times but we somehow are 5-4 haha. If Bryce turns a page and cranks out some truly QB driven wins, then maybe we do consider just rolling with him and a Dalton replacement in 2026.  Someone like a Jarrett Stidham/Tanner McKee.   However, if he stays mostly the same (whether we fall apart or he struggles on/off but we still win some), I think you have to leave to door open for a QB in the draft.  Scout and meet with the top ones, see if any really fit what D&D want.  Maybe that guy could be Mateer.  Who knows
    • I lived in that area for a minute, and 2 decades of BB and Brady made them delusional.  They think everyone is the 2nd coming of Brady and they're just on a short coffee break til the next dynasty.
    • Bryce Young hasn't cleared 200 passing yards in a single game in that window.  Meanwhile, Rico Dowdle has put together the greatest 5 game stretch of rushing production in Panthers history.   And RBs have sort of been our thing, so there is ample competition.  This team hasn't been lead by Bryce Young in that stretch. Those wins are simplistically 3 things.  Schedule, Rico, and defense.
