Who is Carrington Byndom?

I have seen more than one person around these parts ask who Carrington Byndom is and wonder how he ended up on the Panthers regular roster.

Well here is the low down....

Byndom was signed as an UDFA corner this season (The Panthers have another UDFA on the roster? Shocking....)

He was listed at 5'11 and 177 pounds at his pro day, which is a bit lighter than he needs to be with his frame. It is unclear if he has picked up some weight over the past several months, but in a pro regimen its reasonable to think so.

Training Camp and Preseason Impressions:

Struggled early but seemed to improve as the weeks went on. Has the length and speed to play the position, but was a bit timid. Did not press well, and that is an understatement. Needed lots of work on his hands. Also, appeared to be a bit apprehensive to get in and get physical when needed against the run. Not a great tackler.

How has be progressed since then?

No one knows. In the portions of practice that would indicate his progress, media is locked out. So we will have to wait and see on Sunday if he plays well enough to stick around for 2015.

    • Pretty sure that a QB contract payday is all the competition any QB in this league needs, I don't think a competent backup is going to make them play any harder when the current situation wouldn't warrant the contract extension yet anyways. Your opening point in this post is also the problem, "Bryce has shown signs of improving", but that's still all he's shown, and he's only showing that because of just how bad he was to start his career. If he played like last season from the beginning and never improved one bit, then I actually think more fans would be ready to move on from him, which is what's weird.  It's like going from one of the biggest draft busts of all time into the 25th best QB in the league over 3 years means he deserves a long term $40+ million a year contract extension. Improvement shouldn't be the goal when the result of said improvement is still bottom of the league levels.
    • Yeah, but we've seen him do it. Just not often. I think that's the reason for the taller WRs. Would likely be a problem finding someone like Jimmy Horn in the mess.
    • And the Rams, Seattle, Patriots, Green Bay, Jaguars and the Bills who all made the playoffs and in case you forgot, Seattle and the Patriots played in the SB. By any measure, that's pretty brutal.
