KB should continue to get better at routes, but...those hands

top dawg

Benjamin has dropped some key passes this year.  Coming out of college, the scouts said that he would have mental lapses on the ordinary plays, but he has proven to drop balls at some very inopportune times as well.

I have already conceded in my mind that he is not a WR1, but what I call a 1-2 hybrid.  He just doesn't have the consistency that I want t see out of a WR1, but hopefully he will be able to roast defenses once we get that true WR1 on the other side.

It appears that the scouting reports on him have been absolutely on point., except the ones that called him a boom or bust prospect.  I don't think that he has either been a boom or bust, but a decent WR with good upside.  I feel that he, much like any Panthers WR this year, has been largely misused because he has had to be due to a lack of what we need at the position. So, in some respect, his yardage may be bloated this year.  By the same token, I think that if we get some more threats at the position, then his production will be right around where it is (on pace) right now from year to year, but with more TDs.

But KB is going to have to consistently display the hands that he displayed in camp to really excel and become more than a glorified Brandon LaFell.  Yeah I said it.  And the kicker is that when LaFell was here, even his hands weren't as questionable as Benjamin's.

Bottom line:  Benjamin has been good enough to hold the fort this year, but we still need a play maker or two at the position with greater consistency and markedly better hands.

You generally either have great hands or okay ones or bad ones.

We knew coming in he wasn't consistent with his hands. He might improve some but I suspect he will always run a little hot or cold.

Which is why it'll be foolish to ride his train as number 1 like we did steve for so long

    • It’s like being on the Flyers broadcast team feed so far
    • Boy the flyers look good early. Lots of bad plays and slow start by our team. Hope that changes before the score changes.
    • I guess I should have stipulated outside the sacred cow.   I complained from year one that Bryce should compete for and win the starting job on his own merit but no he was just handed it. I have been right there with everyone that wants competition.  But I don’t really have a huge problem with it for this season the way it has gone because where are the viable people we don’t have to trade for? I actually am okay with tiny hands Pickett because he is so close to Bryce arm strength wise and to be honest, skill wise. Probably. And it is only a one year deal.  That also takes into account that the QB class is looking stacked next year and if Young fails miserably then we get either a reset or a real competition and there will be more guys that I would like looking at in the FA QB class next year as well.    I sort of accept where we are this year and look at it as another treading water year (at QB). I just want to get to next year with some clarity. More than anything. And they did empty out the room. Again, who was really there for us?  And I know it would not be a true competition at this point anyway. They are giving him the year, like it or not.    Also I don’t give a poo about winning games IF he sucks and or goes down after sucking because draft position and that stacked QB class.  And I want out from under him So Bad.     So I guess it is several factors that lessen my anxiety over his backup this particular season.    I am not trying to convince anyone, but you asked. That’s how I look at it.
