Huddle question: Do they pay Cam next year?

Kaepernick's Deal:

12.5 Million signing bonus spread evenly over 5 years.

Salary is a gradual increase: (2015-$12.4M, 2016-$13.9M, 2017-$16.5M, 2018-$17M, 2019-$18.8M)

Essentially, they're only paying Kaepernick $14.4 next season which is totally reasonable.  I can see us doing a similar deal with Cam.

They'll pay him. I don't think he's worth the money though. They could pay him two hundred million and he still wouldn't be as good as Drew Brees.

Too many QBs are getting these big contracts. Probably only Aaron Rodgers, Manning, Brady and Brees are worth the money.

Cam has never won a playoff game. His stats have gotten worse each year since his rookie year. It seems most defenses have figured out how to immobilize him and his contemporaries (minus Wilson who isn't just running a gimmick and has a natural ability to use his mobility to buy his receivers time).

But there is no alternative to Cam. If we were 1-15 we could go with Mariota or Winston but there's no FA out there better than Cam currently. We'll pay him and be the ATL Falcons for half a decade or so with perennial horrible defense and lack of supporting cast and and a QB who simply can't do it alone.

Dude stop bashing people and contributing jack poo, if you don't think we should pay Cam then go and watch the Jets Bills and Browns for a couple of weeks.

Then realise that if they added Cam to any of their rosters they'd be top 10 teams.

quit making up crap! stay in context.

Let's just keep drafting a new quarterback every other year like the Browns and Jaguars. It's clearly been working out well for them.

I don't think we pay him this coming season, no. I think Gettleman is going to use the looming franchise tag as a bargaining chip, and then slap it on Cam at the end of next season, only to proceed to get a deal done immediately after.

    • I'll say 6. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition and will do more to help the defense than anyone. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole there. For all the hype surrounding Sanders and Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
    • 2010 was worse. Not much worse but worse.
    • Lol since 2017 the Panthers are 47-85,    Also since 2017 the Giants are 40-91-1   Lol
