Hurney, Peppers and Defensive Tackles

Recommended Posts

It's not simply a matter of Hurney just going out and getting a guy, you have to have a team willing to make a trade. And this early, few teams are willing to trade away one of their quality backups. The earliest I ever expected a trade to take place was this week, but it is probably more likely to come around 1st cuts. That's when things begin to get sorted out and teams start to hone in on who they think will be a part of their regular season roster.

Carolina gets Glenn Dorsey and Corey Williams.

Kansas City gets Julius Peppers.

Cleveland gets a 3rd round pick.

Err....good post but...one of these things is not like the other.

Cant trade Peppers cause we would still be stuck with the 17Million.

Hurney could not foresee Kemo annihilating his achilles, which made all this an issue in the first place.

DT was an issue last season. We had no depth and our 2 starting DTs could not generate pressure on passing downs which added to our entire defense sucking the 2nd half of last year.

I agree but at the same time if we were going to do something then why have we waited so long. I don't think Hurney is going to do anything, I think he will wait until cuts and we wont get anyone with any starting ability. At least the good news is that we know to start running backs against the Panthers in fantasy football...they are going to put up huge numbers all season. Just like the Meeks led Colts defesnse two years ago.

Waiting increases our leverage and lowers the price in a trade. Right now every team knows we badly need DT help, which decreases our leverage.

But the closer it gets to cuts, the more leverage we regain, because teams know if they ask for too much we could just wait and see who's available.

I think we will make a trade but I think it still could be at least another week or so.

    • Having trouble finding all these articles saying the Raiders withheld information. Here’s the latest from Crosby’s surgeon: ElAttrache told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday morning that Crosby was "doing very well in the early part of his rehab and recovery from surgery to treat a significant meniscus tear and the related stress injury to the bone and cartilage in his knee. He is certainly on track in his planned program." "We truly respect the work of the Ravens' staff with Maxx regarding the contract physical exam. We also understand the challenge the staff faces when tasked to provide a future risk assessment based on an evaluation early in the recovery process," ElAttrache said. "This is especially challenging when dealing with an elite player like Maxx considering the level of commitment necessary for a team to obtain him. The timing of this assessment is unfortunate because the apparent risk will lessen as his recovery progresses and his return to performance over the next few months becomes clear."     So the Ravens excuse is the future risk assessment based on the physical, not that the Raiders withheld information. They found an excuse to save face publicly. They had the right to cancel the trade for no reason at all, but they’re trying to save face with the most acceptable reasoning they can find. I’ve heard and seen the Ravens getting dragged everywhere for this. You know what would be an easy way to put a stop to that if you’re the Ravens and the Raiders were actually the shady ones withholding information? Just come out and say that you were not given all the medical information. But they aren’t saying that. I guess they’re just taking the bullet for the Raiders just because?    Speculation indeed.
    • Two first round picks for a guy with very questionable knees who will be 29 this summer. Yes it is safe to say the Ravens got cold feet.
    • The salary cap is the reason we got Phillips and Lloyd
