Offseason NFL News

Just saw where the Eagles are planning on trading up for....Marcus Mariotta.

Going to take one helluva bounty to get up to #1 from #20 if they dealt directly with the Bucs, and I saw the idea of multiple trades. Not good news for the division though IMO.

Say the Eagles send the Bucs Nick Foles, their 1st, their 2nd, and a future 1st or so. The Bucs could become respectable as soon as next season.

Kubiak was Elway's backup QB for 9 years from 1983 to 1991. Both Kubiack and Elway were drafted by Broncos in 1983 draft, Elway #1 overall, Kubiak #197 overall out of Texas A&M

After a couple years coaching at Texas A&M (1992-1993), Kubiak spent a year (1994) as 49ers QB coach for Steve Young under OC Mike Shanahan. The next year, Shanahan became head coach of the Broncos and made Kubiak his OC and QB coach, a spot Kubiak held for the next 11 years (Elway was his QB the first 4) before becoming HC of his hometown Texans.

Don't have a link, but I saw it too.

It's draft season, so take everything with a big grain of salt, but I could see it.

Mind you, if they actually do pull a stunt like trading way up for Mariota, I think Eagle fans might start to question the wisdom of giving Kelly so much power.

Browns hire 36-year-old John DeFilippo as OC. Will be his first gig as OC. Was rookie Derek Carr's QB coach with the Raiders.

NFL coaching experience:

2005-2006 Giants offensive asst in Erhardt-Perkins offense under OC John Hufnagel (currently 88-36-1 with two Grey Cup victories as HC of Calgary in the CFL)

2009 Jets QB coach in Air Coryell offense under OC Brian Schottenheimer (recently hired as Georgia's new OC)

2007-2008, 2012 - Raiders QB coach in West Coast offense under OC Greg Knapp (Broncos QB coach for last two years)

2013-2014 Raiders QB coach in West Coast offense under OC Greg Olson (recently hired as new OC of Jaguars)

Broncos QB coach Gregg Knapp on John DeFilippo :

"He's like Adam Gase. He's got great knowledge and a great future ahead of him."

...

"When I was coordinator in Oakland, I said to him, 'You're the quarterback coach, and it's your job to coach me out of the room,' '' recalled Knapp. "He did that in a half a year's time -- and that was seven years ago, when he was really young.''

...

"I have the utmost confidence in him,'' he said.

Elway said he consulted Manning before taking next step

with Kubiak

Denver Post:

"The seismic impact was felt throughout the Rocky Mountains on Tuesday, and the celebration in the auditorium at Dove Valley was beyond exhilarating. But the 6-foot-5, 230-pound elephant was not in the room.

Peyton Manning.

According to three trustworthy sources, Manning wants to return to the Broncos, but won't and can't make a final decision until he takes an annual physical examination mandated by his contract. Last year, the test results were learned at the beginning of March.

...

Those close to Manning — and who spoke for background on the condition of anonymity — claim that he..would like to continue playing; he must await tests results on his repaired neck — and, obviously, the calf injury that prevented him from playing in the Pro Bowl"

other reasons cited for Manning coming back include:

--"With their mother Ashley, young Mannings Mosley and Marshall were seen crying in the hallway after the Broncos' final game (vs Colts)"

--"Manning, who turns 39 on March 24, is due $19 million next season."

--"the commercial branding of the Manning name nationally and locally with automobiles, insurance and pizza (he owns 21 Papa John's in Colorado)"

The Japan Times, Hiroshi Ikezawa:

"Manning’s arm is no longer good enough to win another Super Bowl.

...

The Broncos need another approach...and Kubiak’s running attack could be the answer.

Kubiak’s system introduces a zone blocking scheme and cut blocking techniques by offensive linemen, which can make an average running back a 1,000-yard rusher.

...

An improved running attack would help ease Manning’s workload

...

it has happened before in Denver. Elway guided the Broncos to five Super Bowls in his career as the quarterback, but lost the first three when he was the center of the offense.

By the time Elway played in his fourth Super Bowl, at the age of 37...he had lost the arm strength and mobility of his younger days. But the Broncos had a strong running attack ... the Broncos won their first NFL title that season and defended it the following year before Elway finally called it quits. Guess who the offensive coordinator was at that time.

It was Kubiak."

    • If Reich or Fitterer were still around I think the need to extend Young because of what he cost would be stronger.  And yeah Morgan was Fit's right hand when the call was made but there an equal chance that Dan will see it as a chance to move on from Fit and shake off that stink. Holding out some hope that 3 years and clear eyes will allow for an honest appraisal that Young just aint the guy
    • As far as elite/elevate talent QB’s It’s Allen Mahomes Jackson and Burrow that’s it.  Then we have tiers and those can be debated all day Dak is a good QB but I know this board would want him out of Charlotte if he was the QB here. 2 playoff wins in 10 years. Justin Herbert no playoff wins. Threw 4 interceptions in last years playoff game. 23 TD passes last year. 20 the year below and 25 the year before that. This board loves stats without context and these stats aren’t saying they’re much above complimentary  Kyler Murray isn’t good. I’m not sure how he made this list.  Caleb Williams, Trevor Lawrence both benefiting from some real good offensive coaches right now. They’re both complimentary pieces until proven otherwise  I like Jordan Love. Always have. I wanted to draft him but he isn’t a superstar.  CJ Stroud hasn’t been much better than Bryce after his rookie season. After that Bears game year 2 his numbers very similar to Bryce I will say I think Drake Maye is well on his way to becoming the next top tier QB if I had to pick one from this entire list. I’d also say Baker Mayfield is a damn good QB and I’d take him over most of those guys not in the elite category  Now if you want to debate tools and which QB’s possess tools to put them in higher tiers that’s a completely different discussion. Most QB’s on your main list all have those physical tools that will keep you thinking he’ll become the next top tier QB. They’ll sprinkle in a “wow” play or two a game. Bryce will never look that way. Young’s game at its peak will physically always look different and I think that’s where most people struggle when it comes to seeing how Young’s can be successful in the league  All QB’s need a team around them. I think the Bills are failing Josh Allen much like the Panthers did Cam. Beane and McDermott using same blueprint with Bills team. Josh Allen hasn’t had much in terms of WR’s and it’s ultimately costing them when it matters the most
