Shaq Thomspon, possible safety project?

Recommended Posts

this is the guy I want in the first. Immediately improves special teams, run support and Is that center fielder that has the speed to bust through screen passes.

he is basically the only player that makes sense for us if La'el is off the board...and honestly, I still might take him even if La'el is still there.

posted this in the combine on the main board but

I'm wanting to know what the big hype on drafting Shaq to come in and play SS. I haven't watched to many highlights of his. Just because he is a good athlete and can hit hard doesn't mean he's going to be a stud SS.

Look at Taylor Mays that came out of USC several years back. Waaaay more athletic and would lay someone out, but hasn't been good in coverage at all. (Btw he's a FA this year if looking for a cheap stop gap at SS)

Im not on the Shaq bandwagon.  There is going to be much better value for us at WR, OT, DB, or DL at 25 for us IMO.

You haven't watched many "highlights" but yet you can say definitively (in your opinion of course) that the value is going to be better at other positions? Alright guy....

Im pretty sure even in the highlights he wasn't out in coverage as a safety.  Just because you are a decent in coverage as a LB doesn't mean your going to play SS.  Just because your athletic enough of a LB to play it doesn't mean you can play DB.

Again I use Mays as an example.  Guys was Twice the Athlete Shaq is and was a All-American Safety in college but he still couldn't transition well to the NFL.

He came into Washington as a Safety.....and if you watched more than highlights you would see him playing as a Safety situationally. But nah....your highlights tell you all you need. He covered Tight Ends on a regular basis while at Washington and did so well. Sure you're not going to put him on a quick twitch slot receiver, but he can and has covered Tight Ends at a high level.

Even if you put him at Linebacker....is it really a bad thing to have two Thomas Davis type players in your front seven?

    • It's going to take time to really evaluate new ownership. I still have some hopes that they can get us past the curse of the Jordan years. We got screwed over by the league with the lottery yet again, nothing in this draft was ever going to make people happy after that happened.
    • The Hornets were screwed when they lost out on the #1 pick. Outside of Cooper Flagg this was a terrible draft class full of risky prospects and red flags. Kon Knueppel likely won't ever be a superstar - or even a star, realistically - but he can be a solid contributor for a long time in the league. That's actually more than I think will end up being the case for many of these players.
    • I guess we should disregard what all these places say about our draft? And just trust you guys on this board? And as far as the Mark Williams trade, most places are saying we got the much better end of that trade for what its worth to yall. Bleacher report has Kon a "B", BR has him C+, Fansided A-, NBC Sports overall draft an A-, Sports Illustrated overall A-, MSN has Kon a B+, Yahoo Sports has us at an A- overall. Here is what ESPN posted:  Post-Draft Analysis Knueppel's well-rounded perimeter game and terrific 3-point shooting ultimately won out in Charlotte's decision process, with the Hornets attracted to his fit with their current roster and his long-term potential. He should help stabilize their perimeter minutes immediately, with his dependability all season at Duke a major selling point. The Hornets were thought to be exploring moves here, but were content to simply grab their guy and move forward. This is a strong match that should pay off right away for both sides. -- Jeremy Woo
