Off-season priorities - #3 Cornerback

London Loves Luke

Recommended Posts

Our defense improved from 25th to 5th with changes in our secondary over the second half of the season, not changes to our D-Line. CJ is still a game changer, and when you can rotate Alexander, Ealy, Horton and Addison on the other end you should not be too worried about DE. When your corner depth is Melvin White and Carrington Byndom, then you should address your cornerbacks.

CJ came alive and Ealy was picking the game up. Plus Frank spelled some at the end of the season! We didn't have a pass rush until last third of the season....hence why the CBs looked effective

So why do we need to reinforce the stellar pass rush that we got at the end of last season then? That's what we're all saying, we have bigger areas to improve without worrying about the "what if" worst case scenarios at DE.

What if worst cases in that dept we cripple the team! Under talented #3 CB or #2 WR will only effect downs every once and awhile. Cap space needs to address repairing a weak pass rush before worries of NB's or #2 and #3 WR

Id rather we address corner in FA than the draft. We have enough inexperience and youth at the cornerback position right now. There is a solid list of veteran corners out there than can upgrade the position for us at good value.

I agree there's talent in this FA group, but CB is an overpaid position all round at the moment. So evaluating value for money is especially hard at the moment. That's why I support Gman's experimental approach to FA for corners.

Top 3 by far are OT, WR, and safety. Then I, and many others, would argue that DE, DT depth and OLB are all bigger needs than corner if we lockup Norman (which we will). Bene will start outside with Colin Jones back at nickel. Jones is a beast in that buffalo package and it fits his skill set insanely well. Our defense is built around pressure on the QB and stopping the run. So DT depth since we have no one in the rotation now behind Star and KK, and DE which was elite with Hardy but wasn't last year at all, are way more important than CB. And CJ could be gone soon if we can't workout a way to get his cap hit down then DE becomes by far our biggest need (assuming we've addressed OT). Ealy has shown some promise but is very far from a sure thing, Horton and Addison are trash, and no one knows what will happen with Big Frank.

Colin is an extreme liability in coverage, we need him on special teams more than we need him at nickle.

    • there is one common denominator in the 2003 & 2015 Carolina Panthers teams they both had ELITE top tier Qb play.  it would require a MVP type of season from Bryce Young to have the same type of success that Jake Delhomme had in  2003 & or Cam Newton in 2015 & lead this team to a SuperBowl is this going to happen or is there any reason to believe Bryce Young is capable of playing similar to Jake Delhomme in 2003 or Cam Newton in 2015 ? well no there is no absolutely NO reason whatsoever to believe that this is going to happen in 2026 ..just saying
    • I'd actually like to see Cherelus get a fair shot to win the job in camp. Wallace is decent in drop zone coverage, but he gets abused in the play action game and is often times out of position in the run game. It might just be me, but I swear every time I watch Wallace play, I see multiple plays a game were it looks like he's just trying to be blocked. Watching Cherelus last year he at least looked like he was trying to hit someone on every play. Wallace plays like a LB who doesn't trust what he sees and it makes him passive and cautious versus Cherelus who regardless of if his decision is right or wrong goes at it 100%.
    • Agreed.  Hasn’t happened to me either, but I feel very strongly about it.  That’s not just one of the worst things a woman could do to a man, it’s a power inherent to only women and is one of the worst things a HUMAN being can do to another.  A man can’t “hide” a pregnancy or maternity.  It’s impossible.  And that sucks for anyone that has to go through that. I always got a weird vibe off her and just found her very unlikeable.  Annoying even.  I’ve always been good at reading people and there was just something about her to me that was off-putting, somewhere under the surface.  And here we are…  she is despicable.
