DJ Humphries - OT Florida Gators

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah has Humphries launching up draft boards and has him building buzz around the league. On his list of the Top 50 Prospects, Humphries now sits at 18 ahead of some of the other notable OT prospects we have grown to be familiar with.

Jeremiah writes of Humphries:

"Humphries was a 2 1/2-year starter at offensive tackle for the Gators. He has a lean, narrow frame with excellent length. In the pass game, he is quick out of his stance and plays with excellent knee bend. He has a sharp punch and rarely exposes his chest to defenders. He is smooth to redirect versus counter moves. He does have issues under-setting at times, which allows defenders to beat him on the edge. In the run game, he uses his athleticism to reach/cutoff but he doesn't generate a lot of power at the point of attack. Overall, Humphries lacks ideal girth and experience but he has a very high ceiling as an NFL left tackle because of his quickness, length and athleticism."

Ideal fit for us at LT? Will he continue to rise and be drafted before our pick? The more I read about him, the more I like him once he is coached up.

Just don't see the big deal on him. Have seen some people list him as a round 2-3 guy and some round 5-7 guy. He does have the athletic ability and was pretty highly touted coming out of high school. Guy did start on a Florida OL but the line was pretty bad. Don't think he ever made all SEC. If he falls to the 6th or 7th I'd want him but don't want to get him early. Very similar to Henderson from Miami last year and another Former Florida LT from NC Nixon

according to Tony Pauline, he is already over 300 pounds. he is from Charlotte as well, went to Mallard Creek High School. he is very athletic and has a very clean kick slide. one thing i noticed that florida did, was have him block down a lot, on both runs and passing plays. why not allow your best pass protector go against the opposing teams best defensive lineman?

This is one of the OTs I'm keeping an eye on.  In my opinion, CBS's ratings who I usually like to check to get an idea of the draft seem off this year.

 

For me, after Peat, Flowers, & Collins, this tackle class is quite the mixed bag.  Also, I'm seeing a lot of sites have extremely different ratings.  

 

I can actually see it being argued for Humphries to be considered over/alongside Clemmings, Sambrailo, and Fisher as a projected LT.    

 

If he's there in the 2nd, that would be very tempting.  In the 3rd, I'd take him without a doubt.  Also, as mentioned, don't forget J James last year.  If teams think a guy can play LT in the NFL, that will cause his stock to skyrocket.

      Since Tepper bought the team we've made 43 draft selections before this last draft. Of those 43 only 11 I would consider guys that should be on NFL rosters, not even starters but should be on teams period. Of those 11 only 4 are good to above average NFL players.  Brian Burns correcting me if I'm wrong but hurney pick Hubbard picked by Matt rhules wife Derrick Brown this was Hurneys last first round pick right? Jaycee Horn - the one pick fitterer/Morgan made that looks like a pro bowl player. Problem is they picked him right in front of first team all pro at the same position.

      I'm with you on this. I watched the beginning until the weather delay, saw enough of the game to say to myself, "I think I will go outside and cut my grass". Pretty sad that cutting grass is way better than watching the Can'thers play. Actually had a good time and the weather was awesome. Probably gonna stick with that M/O for the foreseeable future.

      Tepper makes the wrong decision in literally every case. It's laughable at this point. It is as hard as getting every single decision right. Give me one example of one thing he's got correct in 8 fuging years. It's no surprise that promoting the assistant GM that worked for the worst GM that I've ever seen was a mistake. This goes all the way back to insisting that Ron run a 3-4 and the defense goes to complete poo and we suck. That decision in my opinion cost us 3 or 4 more seasons of the greatest middle linebacker to ever do it.
