NFL Ends Blackout Rule For 2015 Season

The NFL will suspend its blackout policy for the 2015-16 season, league spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed. The move is just for this upcoming season, and after the fact the NFL will review the policy to see how it played out, according to Kevin Clark of the Wall Street Journal.

The league's blackout policy hasn't made sense in a long time, and nobody has ever been able to point to proof that it actually results in more people attending games. The blackout rule came into effect when teams did not sell out 85 percent of their non-premium tickets for a home game within 72 hours of kickoff. In that event, the designated "home area" for viewers would be blacked out on television.

I think it will we interesting to see if the corporate sponsors will still buy the unsold tickets.

Is it mere coincidence the NFL is going to have 2 teams in Los Angeles before a stadium is completed for them and this blackout lift comes just in the nick of time?

Think about it, either the Rose Bowl (92,500 seats) and/or the Los Angeles Coliseum (93,600 seats) will be the home of the LA Rams and the LA Chargers. While it is more than likely a single stadium will be built for both teams, in the meantime there's no way either of their temporary stadiums will sell out.

What better way to take care of and make these moves easier than to lift the blackout in an effort to establish a new fanbase.

    • Yeah lol well the interest isn’t really about seeking stimulation.  I wanted to see how actually bad it was.  And how much of it was women setting him up to be their cash cow.  That is the stuff that leveraged the Panthers into David Tepper’s hands. It is important in that sense.     The worst that I have heard is that he got them in the car and clumsily reached across to help them with their seat belt and made contact. With his arm. That was probably his big slick move. And I can almost guarantee he wasn’t rejected every time. It is easy to picture that action bringing his head close enough to the woman’s head to where he could go in for the kiss if he thought he got the green light.    I really don’t care if JR was a horn dog. We heard all our lives up until the last few years that one of the perks of being really old is that you can flirt with the young women and it is not just tolerated but expected. So he was keeping a tradition alive at some point 😂
    • Well I rubbed some dirt on it and am still here just not optimistic about the future of the QB position. Even what I had accepted as a ceiling raised to an acceptable level turned out to be a bit of a mirage, upon rewatch of the WC game.  Good plays were there yes, but some pretty bad ones too that the good ones late in the game kind of obscured. I have to downgrade that a little.  Especially after rewatching the last 4 plays. I remember the arguments about he did his job the WRs didn’t but that was really just that last muff by Coker I think it was on our final offensive play.   To the future: I know what my level is for paying him and recommitting, but I don’t have any confidence that the team shares my high bar.    But thanks for the pep talk
