Potential Draft Day Trade Partners

So I was thinking about teams that Gettleman might trade with and a few names came to mind.

First and foremost is obviously the Giants. One of the few trades Gettleman has ever made was Beason for the conditional pick that ended up being a 7th rounder. That trade made it clear that Gettleman still has a relationship with Jerry Reese and Tom Coughlin, so they are definitely a potential partner.

Next is Rick Spielman and the Vikings. This one fits for two reasons. One, it was Minnesota that we traded with last year, giving up that 7th that we got for Beason to move up 20 spots in the 5th and snag Bene (Genius in hindsight). Two, Spielman has openly said that he wants more picks in this year's draft, so they will probably be looking to trade down.

Lastly, I could see us trading with the Bears. This article states that Gettleman knows John Fox, and Chicago has lots of holes on defense and a new GM who might try to make a bit of a splash. Plus our organization has a rich history of trading with the Bears, though given that was all Hurney.

Realistically, we are not trading up in the 1st round. With our comp picks though, I could see us using our 5th or maybe even our 4th to move up in the 3rd or 2nd round if we see a really undervalued player on the board. *coughShaqcough* The spots of those potential teams are as follows:

  • 2nd: Chicago - 39. New York Giants - 40. Minnesota - 45  (Carolina - 57)
  • 3rd: Chicago - 71. New York Giants - 74. Minnesota - 76  (Carolina - 89)

Thoughts? Can anyone think of any other head coaches or GMs that Getts has a relationship / history with that I'm forgetting?

I think the list of teams we won't trade with is shorter. New England, NFC South, Seattle, Arizona, and the Cowboys.

In my eyes we wouldn't deal with these teams because they are our most direct competition or there is bad blood.

The Chargers, Chiefs, Bengals, 49ers, and Steelers are teams we have loose ties to or previous draft history.

But there are many factors that are unpredictable in the draft. We went up and got Bene because we were shocked he was still available. How far we moved up was based on who would take our offer.

If we trade down, expect a bunch of trading up later in the draft.  the best candidate for trading down would be any team who wants a QB like Hunley or Petty.  At the top of the second round there will be a lot of teams who need a qb.   To assure a qb, trade up into the bottom of the first.

Let's just say for fun that the Vikes offer up the 11th overall pick for more picks, what is that pick worth to them? Could a 1st, 3rd and 5th get that done?

I don't believe that this trade would ever be made by Gettleman, but thinking about how the Vikes want picks and they're in a spot where it's not a "Top 10 Pick" and you could get a Gurley or one of the better OTs or WRs in that spot.

Just thinking out loud...

    • I think where they would be picked if redrafted before both classes have played enough football to really tell.  Baker literally looked like a washout with us after Cleveland gave up on him, then turned world beater with the Rams, got a prove it deal with the Bucs and has looked awesome ever since. Asking where Ward would’ve went had he went in ‘24 is just stupid.  I’m no GM, but I wouldn’t have taken Williams #1 either.  I would’ve taken Joe Milton way higher than he went.  I think Shadeur should’ve been a first round pick this year.  Point being, opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one.  It’s my opinion that Ward has that “something special.”  I get that feeling that he’ll be an even better pro than he was a collegiate QB because of whatever that quality is.  I think he’s gonna surprise a lot of people, especially being such an under appreciated first overall pick.
    • Where do we get our T-shirts and hats? Pretty sure this is the first championship ever in professional basketball or football in Charlotte!
    • Nice turnaround for Kon.  I’m still a little worried about his ability to create for himself and others, but it was SL.  Come regular season, he will playing a much different role and shots will be there for him.  He showed some reason for hope - and not just him, but the whole squad.  I suppose for the first time ever, we have drafted and acquired enough young talent that we actually not only competed for once, but won the whole thing in summer league.     Kon, Simpson, and Sims made all the difference.  Almost every year prior I felt we always struggled because we usually didn’t have a floor general/real PG to get us into offense.  This was such a breath of fresh air.  And look at us!  We finally are champions!😂
