I feel much better after reading this, and lots of good quotes from Jerry Reese who shares much of the same values as Gettleman. I may come around to the pick after thinking about it..

I keep hearing "he can cover the Tight End". My only concern there is his height. Can he prevent the jump ball? Those power forward Tight Ends may be too much for him.

Luke got significantly better last year in coverage, but yes TD is our best coverage LB. Ideally Shaq adds to that on the other side now which doesn't allow offenses to create mismatches in situations where a small DB is lined up on a big TE in two TE sets.

I can see him being our version of Kam Chancellor, but not as a safety. Seattle uses Kam as a hybrid player between linebacker and safety, just more as a safety. I can see us using Shaq in a similar way, only more at linebacker than safety. Still, they both provide a lot of versatility for the scheme and I think that's what we're counting on.

Bingo.  Shaq is going to be asked to line up in a variety of spots in our defense.  He'll either be roaming around looking for a big hit, asked to cover a TE/RB one on one, or be sent in a on a blitz.
