I just would like to think we go with youth over a 34 year old corner. Seems like that lesson should have been learned last year.

Here's the positional breakdown of the Week 1 53 man roster for the last 2 years

Notes: Brockel is listed as a TE both years even though he is more of an H-back. Tolbert is listed as the FB in both years.

 

As you can see, Gettleman has been consistent in his first 2 years with regards to the roster breakdown and the number of players at each position. The sole difference was in 2013 when we only carried 2 QB's and added a CB. Cam's injury necessitated the need for a 3rd QB in 2014. Since it seems likely that we will again have 3 QB's on the roster, the numbers from 2014 are the ideal starting point when formulating a roster although I do not discount the possibility that Webb gets cut in favor of another defensive player since he is on a non-guaranteed 1 year contract and Cam has no questions about his health going into 2015.

IMO the Tillman signing was hyped so much (especially with him winning Man of the Year before TD) that it would take a bad camp / injury for him not to make the final roster. At worst I can see him being dropped from the starting lineup, but not completely off the roster.

Really informative post though. I think we're looking at a similar layout but perhaps with an additional FB and one less TE. Webb is also a wildcard. The other potential wrench is Gettleman seeking out ST Aces, which is why I had Trusnik hanging around as a 7th LB.

Worth noting that if any of Trusnik, Coleman, or Tillman don't make the squad we could potentially get back into the compensatory pick race for next season.

Dammit. I figured I missed a position. Fixed now.

 

I could see us having one less TE and adding a FB but that would be trading Brockel for Ward which is more of a like for like swap than the listed positions would indicate so to me it would really be the same roster makeup.

 

I do agree that a 7th LB is a definite possibility and that's where I expect the extra roster spot would go if Gettleman decides to go with 2 QB's again. OL is another place I could see a roster spot coming from but with the uncertainty there and rate of injury at the position I don't think that is likely at least for week 1.

You guys like to add names but if you add 3 you have to take 3 off.

 

I could see Martin not making the squad at OT.  Lester at Safety. 

 

White/Bynum will need to fight for their jobs against Peters and Teddy.  Tillman could be ahead of all of them on the 53. 

 

And I still think Coleman could end up our starter at SS.  That's my sleeper this year on the team.

I see where you're coming from, I just can't see us cutting him. If we do though, then great call.
