No longer just a coordinator

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Over the past few years, I've been an assistant coach in a local church kids' flag football league, helping out a buddy of mine who was a head coach.

Well this season, they had a lot more kids join up at the 6th to 8th grade level, and they needed additional head coaches.

And thus, after several seasons as a hot coordinator who kept getting passed over, I finally got a head coaching job B)

Have to say the job interview was pretty rigorous.

"You wanna coach a team this year?"

"Sure."

"Good!  Why don't you coach this team?"

"Okay,  I'll do it."

Luckily, I kept my cool, answered the questions, said the right things and made it through the process.

So as of now, I run my own practices, write and call my own plays, mentor my quarterback, make in-game adjustments, give my own speeches that the kids pretend to listen to...the whole nine yards.

It's been a blast so far :D

Do you have a LT?

I have a quarterback, a runningback and four receivers (and/or five defenders, depending on who has the ball)

.

If I did have a left tackle, he'd have to stay out of the sight lines,  My sixth grader quarterback would make Drew Brees look like Goliath

If you need to juice the kids up lmk I have a friend of a friend.

He has apple and orange juice. ;)

My quarterback might need some HGH

When I say he's about half the size of the rest of the team, I'm not exaggerating much.  I'm not sure if he's reached four feet tall yet.

So why is he the quarterback?

Because he's got a rocket launcher for an arm, throws a perfect spiral and if I tell him "look off the safety", he knows what I mean

Wow... took you less time to get a head coaching job than Ron Rivera.

Screw the playbook, you better start working on your repertoire of cliche answers for the reporters.

"One week at a time"

"It is what it is"

"We play all four quarters"

I plan to use the Belichick approach (i.e. mostly mumble and answer nothing).

No wildcat? Give us the playbook

Prove to me you don't work for Belichick first.

Do you deflate the balls?

No. but that's been a running gag.  Most of the kids know the story.

One of our other coaches said to the group, "Tell Tom Brady if these kids can play with fully inflated footballs, so can he"

    • This is one of my key concerns lost in the sauce that is the neverending conversation about him evading pressure and the OL. Eventually any QB is going to have to step up into the pocket and show the defense they can still beat them even if they get through. We have a limited QB who cannot consistently do this and as such we are relegated to going back and forth about how successful he was at evading pressure but we have little else to write home about. Tyler Shough stepped up into the pocket and made plays despite being pressured and sacked. He's played in about 35 less games than Bryce Young. That is a problem. And isn't just going to go away. The Bucs are going to do the same thing after watching the film.
    • Oh, absolutely! That doesn't absolve the absolute dogshit hockey that the team played in front of him, though. Only Cane that played well tonight was Bradly Nadeau.
    • Thanks for illustrating my point.  No one in the last several pages of this discussion is suggesting we should hang on to him, but anytime someone says anything less than "take him out back and shoot him" you act like they are. That's either you not understanding what you're reading or just being a nimrod because you can't keep up. (I would have said 'or just sh-tposting' but you're way too emotional on this topic for that) Either way, the result is the same 😆
