Eastern Conference Finals Thread

.  Call me crazy man but MJ's Bulls teams were so stacked.  He left to play baseball for a year and they still won 50 games and almost made the ECF.  LeBron has single handily carried this run down Cavs team to the finals.  Not to mention LeBron is hurt himself, he has ankle and back injuries he's playing through.  If he somehow beats one of the best teams ever there's nothing wrong with putting him ahead of MJ.  Basically this Warriors team may be better than any team MJ ever beat.  So if LeBron somehow pulls this off it would  be an unbelievable accomplishment.

Exactly what I told chuck. MJ had great surrounding cast, the bulls went to a game 7 with the Knicks and almost went to ecf after winning over 50 games. I doubt the cavs without lebron would do anything near that

Lol is this serious?

And the LeBron/Magic comp refers to their playing style. LeBron has always been more of a fan of getting his teammates involved and running the show (one of his early pitfalls, we wanted him to be more of the "assassin" takeover type, which he discovered in Miami.) Magic pioneered the "point forward." Lebron has added the athleticism.

Again, the closest we have ever seen to another MJ in terms of style is Kobe Bryant, but folks just HAVE to believe that what they are watching right now is the greatest thing ever.

We're not talking about styles, we're talking about legacy, and where he'll rank among the all-time greats.  Of course Kobe is the more apt comparison to Jordan's style... he literally copy and pasted nearly every single one of Jordan's moves and mannerisms.  He tried his damnest to be a carbon copy of the man.  I also agree LeBron is more Magic than Jordan, but that's still a lazy comparison.  LeBron is LeBron.  There's never been a LeBron.

But realistically, from an individual player-to-player standpoint, LeBron is better than Kobe ever was.  This coming from someone who loves some Kobe too.  The only ones that have a hard time accepting this are Kobe die hards who take it personal that LeBron is better for whatever reason.

My original comment didn't have anything to do with comparing LeBron and Jordan, I just prefaced by saying "MJ is still the GOAT, but I can't think of another player in NBA history who's done this" in reference to LeBron, basically by himself, with a bunch of role players and banged up to hell and back... having his team up 3-0 in the ECF about to drag his team to the Finals.  IF he wins a title against that Warriors team... this is going to be a season for the fuging ages for LeBron.

The Cavs without LeBron went immediately from a 66 win team to one of the worst teams in the league.  I also don't see Miami in the playoffs this year either even after discovering a budding superstar big man in Hassan Whiteside, which LeBron didn't have while there - which was also their biggest need by far the entire time he was there.

LeBron goes back to the Cavs, who were still one of the worst teams in the league, and now has them about to head to the fuging Finals.  Without Kyrie, and without Love.

Lol, he's pretty much carrying that garbage ass Knicks team to the Finals that was supposedly "so bad" that even a "superstar" like Carmelo couldn't make it to the playoffs with.

Even if he doesn't get a ring this year, something needs to be said for just how much better he instantly makes a team.  He's by far the best player on the planet.

Cavs might lose game 4 on purpose, and avoid sweeping the Hawks, just to give Kyrie a little more time to get healthy.

Lebron is amazing. His stat line from last night is crazy! He's going to carry his team to a possible sweep over the #1 seed.

Could you be any more hyperbolic?

I like LeBron James. I appreciate his style of play. I love what he's done for this generation of the NBA. But I hate the thought process of LeBron James fanboys. Because of statements like this^.

He has a whopping TWO championships. He's in his twelfth season. If he can't beat the Warriors, how much does he have left for the prime of his career?

He will be in the Hall of Fame and all that good stuff, but the idea that he's some unparalleled talent we will never see again is just a bit of a stretch.

Finals start June 4th, no matter when these series end. Cav's need the rest as a team.

Tell me when you think you'll ever see another combination of size, speed, strength, pretty much all around athleticism, and skill like lebron, who also makes his teammates way better than they are.. look at the players he has had such a positive effect on and just how much he affects Any team he's on. No one has ever done that and probably never will

You are part of the reason some people don't like Lebron. It's such a subjective thing it's arrogant to say this guy is the most gifted. It's not enough i said one of in any sport ever? Don't be such a fanboy.

Be honest name 1 person who has his mixture of size speed athleticism and skill... bo jackson is the only one I can think of close and he's not 6'9" so he loses in size

    • Then don't tune in. It's really not a hard concept to understand, if your making your decision based on your own personal needs/feelings as opposed to what is best for the future of the franchise, then it's a you problem, not a Panthers problem. When the season is already lost, every fan should be rooting for the same thing.  The team plays hard until the final whistle of the season and keeps improving as a team and individually, but in the end, we still come up short and lose games, and preferably because the other team beat us, not because we screwed up and found a way to lose due to our own fault. Look at it this way... If we are up 1 or 2 points with 3 seconds left in the game and the other team is lining up for a FG.  Beyond the joy of victory or the disappointment of defeat, what impact does the other team making or missing the FG have on our team the following season? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING Except where we draft and what teams we play due to our finish in the division. The players and coaches on the team would have the exact same level of improvement and learnings about themselves individually and as a team whether the FG is made or missed.  The ONLY difference in the end is the record in the standings and if the win or loss number changes. If you want to argue if making the playoffs to lose in the first round or just missing them is better or worse, that's totally fair and I can at least understand the other side of it.  But in what is already a lost season, if you're not hoping your team plays well but ends up losing, then you're cutting off your nose to spite your face.  You're hoping for a moment of happiness at the detriment of the franchise's future, and in turn, you're basically then happy for a moment to only set yourself up for future further disappointment.
    • If we’re eliminated I want the wins more.   The season is already a disappointment and if I’m not pulling for wins why bother to tune in?
    • Two things terribly wrong with this post. First is that not one time has myself or anyone else agreeing with me said that the team themselves should think that way or try and lose for positioning.  Never once have I suggested the team should purposefully lose games, ever.  I honestly can't understand why people keep saying this in posts, not one fan has ever said the players should or would purposefully try to lose. And second, is yes, that has happened and it's happened very recently.  The 2020 Bengals were 4-11-1 and then were playing in the SB the very next season.   And while it might have been 2 years later and they didn't quite get to the SB, the 2021 Lions were 3-13-1 and then the 2023 Lions were up 24-7 at halftime of the NFC Championship game. The season between those two? They finished 9-8 and only just missed the playoffs. Which is why I keep trying to compare us to the Lions in where we are at in our re-build.  Throw out Bryce's rookie year with the Reich staff who just didn't work out and he looked god awful.   This past season when we were 5-12 in Canales' 1st season is that 2021 season for the Lions and their 1st season under Campbell.  This year is their 2022 where they grew a ton and Campbell's culture building was clear, where I'm saying we'd likely be better off in the long run if we go 8-9 or 9-8 and just miss out on the playoffs (which is still a significant improvement from last year).  Then our 2026 is their 2024 when we have a chance to be a real contender after adding a few more pieces and our key players having another year of experience under their belts.
