Is Ron Meeks the reason?

Seriously, what's the problem with our defense? I've never seen it play this poorly, preseason or not. And spare me "Preseason" crap, you don't suddenly remember how to tackle when the games mean something. I get the lack of scheming, but the lack of fundamentals is really disturbing.

Is it Meeks or something else?

Way too much overpursuit, missing fits and assignments. These guys are running around like headless chickens. NFL defense is a game of efficiency in movement and discipline. There's no one around on a cutback because three defenders have flooded the initial direction of the play when two of them were supposed to stay at home.

It's just people thinking too much. They are often out of position and trying to adjust to new orders. Once their roles become more automatic, their overall play should improve dramatically.

I can appreciate that in the first preseason game, or even the second. They play for real in a week, and they're supposedly professionals. Just how complicated can you make a cover-2 anyway? And if it is that, who's responsibility is it to introduce stuff at a pace the players can absorb without totally sucking?

    • If we don't extend him, there is no way another team would offer him more than a one year $10m prove it deal lol.
    • He isn’t but looking at what those guys are getting paid, paying him what he’s making now wouldn’t have been terrible, they should have and still should be looking at pairing some guys with brown to form a pretty dominant d line
    • The Bryce hate is nearly laughable.  He looked like garbage the first two games, but has really, really shown improvement and growth.  People who know football are taking notice.  Will Bryce ever be Arron Rodgers, Farvre, Manning or any other hotshot gunslinger?  No, but I think he is a smart football player who has survived a lot more than most other QB's would have after 2.5 years.  So long as this injury doesn't linger I think you will see legitimate growth over the next two years, with a big leap coming next season. Reich and Brown not working together, Duce causing trouble behind the scenes.  Starting WR's of Mingo and Chark.  No legitimate scheme for the OL.  Fitterer's general incompetence. An owner who was desperate for attention.  How did Zac Wilson, Mariota, Winston, Tribuski, Rosen, Lawarence, Fields, Jones, Pickett, and Richardson fair after 2.5 years?  We see what happens when the Texans have not given Stroud the support. The 2018 draft had great talent, they just needed to mature, hell we wasted two of the top three drafted that year.  Outside of Allen, Mahomes, Jackson, Burrow, or Drake Maye, I'm not sure I really would want any other 1st round QB drafted in the past 10 years? RELAX......  Bryce is our guy as we grow as a team.  The only other option I currently see is maybe a buy low draft pick on Drew Allar if he falls to the third round or lower. Bryce is going to be extended.  He won't get Prescott money which would benefit our team going forward.  A mid range extension like Darnold or Baker got may be just the thing this team needs to keep growing.
