Last year, Carolina managed to be a top defense without Greg Hardy, but while paying him over 13 million dollars and while having only a few millon dollars in cap space. Next year, I believe,  we will have over 16 million in cap space. In 2017 we will have over 60 million in cap space, all this WITH Newton's new contract. Let that sink in. New Orleans is only 27 MILLION OVER the cap in 2016. There is no "huddle logic" or any of that other bullcrap you want to call it going on here. Both Seattle and New Orleans are going to be in much worse shape than Carolina in the future. Our team is on the rise and our window is starting to open. Seattle is going to be ok, but not as good, while, I believe the Saint's window is about to be slammed shut very soon.

Your wrong my friend most dual threat QB's will be running for 95% of their career so the stats should be counted and when they do age they will still run but the amount of yards they will gain might  drop of little bit.

Most "duel threat" QB's don't have long career's my friend, and only a couple of them were ever thought of to be the best in the game when they were playing.

If you can't consistently play from the pocket, you probably won't have a long and prosperous career.

We are talking about making QB's 100M dollar men.  Running is the one trait that always slows down as a QB ages, time and again, the QB's slow, and begin to get more and more injuries.

I just prefer not to use the rushing stats when judging QB's and how good they are.  If they can run, fantastic, but the game is won from the pocket.  Passing is much more important.

Well, we know Newton can play from the pocket. So I don't see the problem. Honestly I would like to see more of that.

But you can't win unless you're scoring points, and taking 231 career points scored out of the equation just because they were rushing is ridiculous.

I totally understand, and can somewhat agree, but those 231 points haven't really helped us win a ton of games either.

When I'm looking at QB's I just tend to favor the passing, not the rushing.

Like I said earlier in a different thread, Cam's surroundings are why he has had to play the style he has. Once he gets a good line, he won't have to run for his life. Now that he has good receivers, he should have people open. And now that he has gotten better with where everyone is and going through progressions, he should be able to make better decisions. (Throwing instead of taking off)

Some of the loses also stemmed from defense breakdowns. Long pass play given up when the opponent was in their own territory for example.

Well if you're going the "they haven't helped us win games" route, then you can take passing touchdowns off the table too if those games were losses.

But why would you do that? See what I'm saying. Either you count points scored or you don't.

But I think we generally see what the other is getting at here, so it's all good.

Where talking about true modern dual threat QBs which really started when Cam entered the league, not Jamarcus Russell or Michael Vick who are not true dual threat QBs, so "real trend just started and you can't judge modern day dual threat QB until 15 years from. And when you are a true "dual threat" QB you can you play from the pocket and have exceptinonal running game with it.

Last time i check Cam looks to throw first before running. Your definition  and brain is biased to the past, get with the time bro.

I have to disagree about dual threats being a new thing. Guy's like Fran Tarkenton and Randall Cuningham and Steve Young were true dual threat QB's. I love Cam and his style of play, but yes, it's been done before.

You need to study up on QB's.

If you don't think that Elway, Young, and Tarkenton were "duel threat" QB's you are mistaken.  The name may be new, and I find it stupid, but that's about it.  QB's who run as much as Cam don't normally hold up long term, and the ones that do, are rarely the best QB's in the game.  Just the way it is.

Nope  not the same level that why I said Modern day Duel threat QB. I believe none of them have  ever had over 500 + rushing yards   and the amount of rushing TD's Cam produce each season. They may have started the trend but where not  true "dual threat QBs"

P.S.  Cam is like Lebron James  his body can take the punishment and he also takes care of his body very well. Just look at the injuries he overcame  last season and if you watched  his game he had more severe hits while staying in pockets rather than when he is running and punishing defenders.

Pocket Examples, hit from Cameron Wake during the Miami game  in 2013 season bro.

    • Canales up first. Guys got their legs back yesterday and started a little slow when they came out Bryce challenged them in the huddle and they responded "Dominant practice for the defense today." Praised turnovers, "beautiful hits," and being physical Praised Moehrig, Ransom, Incoom, and Jones II Confirmed playing starters. Predominantly a young team and can't pass up an opportunity. Emphasized game day routines such as nutrition, body readiness, etc. Plus it's a bunch of new guys on the defense. Bryce will start. Will play them the first two, but starters might sit for the third game depending on how practice goes that week. Nic Scourton has a mild hamstring that happened in special teams. DJ Johnson had an issue with his hip flare up and is getting checked out this afternoon. Experimenting with approach to preseason games. In Seattle they played their starters in all but the last preseason game and what Pete Carroll was looking for in terms of mental readiness to play football. Thomas Incoom has been getting a lot of work with AC Carter adding to his toolbelt. Getting better as a rusher and being physical in the run game. Looking for a consistency in response. 1pt for a win, 3pts for a TD. Defense doesn't like that, but in games if they give up one go ball the score can swing. They challenged the pass game and the run game today. Guys are getting together before, between, and after team drills to challenge each other Job of the coaching staff to set the foundation for our schemes, philosophy, and expectations of what it's like to play Panthers football. Powerful when players take that and the locker room owns it. That's when it becomes our team, their team. At the end of the day, the men on the field have to rebound from a bad play, celebrate the good plays, and keep each other in tune for a whole game. Robert Hunt is amazing. Size, talent, quickness, flexibility. Really intelligent guy that there will say himself there are technique things he needs to work on. Regardless of where players are at, there's a constant learning curve and loves that Big Rob is challenging himself with the position coach. Thinks the digital down and distance can be really valuable. Getting the information quickly will help with the flow of the game. Thought TMac looked great but there were some near misses that he'll have to get in the room and communicate with Bryce on while reviewing film. James Mitchell keeps doing right and his trust factor is increasing with the QBs. If you're right and the coverage says the ball goes there, it'll come. Had some issues at the start of camp but is trending up. Newton or Person: "It looked like today was beyond thud but short of live. What do you call that?" Canales: "No, that's thud. In my mind, that's what thud should look like. The challenge for our defensive guys is can you put your body in a position where we know that would've been a tackle." Whizzing by, tagging with two hands, etc doesn't show you whether you would've made a tackle. That's not real football. Let's the play extend because guys have to be ready to chase sometime where the ball squirts out from a pit. Can't train to say "Ah, it was a tackle" and relax but instead play with intensity through the whistle. Lathan Ransom is bringing the physical style of play that they saw on film. Has been really into the details and someone that they can count on. Has really given himself a chance to start at the other safety position. Excited for the extra energy from a game-like environment that they'll get from FanFest. Used to have four preseason games and now FanFest feels like that first one. Will give ST full speed reps to evaluate. Making plays and feeding off of the fans. Window closed quickly on the INT to finish practice. CSW baited Bryce with some movement and made a great play. Saw it from Bryce's perspective with TMac coming open. Has played all over the secondary that they can count on to speak loudly and be on the same page with his teammates.
