We just lost any chance we had at getting Curry to come home

Recommended Posts

hypothetical question: let's say the lottery gods actually allowed us to get anthony davis a few years back - would you trade the brow for curry?

That is a dumb question imo. I don't think a single GM in the NBA would trade anthony davis for Stephen curry. Davis is about to take over the league as lebron falls off and everyone sees it coming

The whole appeal of Curry is that he doesn't appear to be some athlete worried about his legacy and brand and being the greatest like LeBron is.

People hate LeBron because they can't relate to him at all, thanks to jumping ship from Cleveland for a super team and then doing it again back to Cleveland. He lost that whole underdog persona when he decided to turn heel.

Curry, on the other hand, looks like he's about 12 years old, has a gorgeous family, an adorable daughter, and whose crossover-into-a-chucked-up-3-with-6-players-in-his-face-that-swishes is easier on the eye to watch as a casual fan than LeBron, who isos and is a bull in a china shop.

(By the way, this is also one of the reasons folks will always like guys like Magic or MJ better, but that's another thread.)

I don't know what direction Steph plans to go with his career but he seems like the type of guy where as a Charlotte fan it's not unreasonable to say we could have a chance.

LeBron "going home" in an anomaly.

The Bay Area is better than the QC in almost every posible way.

GS has a better team.

He'll get the money no matter where he goes.

He'll get the fan support no matter where he goes.

He can see his family whenever he wants. He's that rich. He doesn't "need" to be with them 24/7. Plus, he's starting his own family.

There is zero reason for him to go to Charlotte. Zero.

It's nice to have hope as a fan, but it makes no sense. None.

If he ever does leave GS, it'll be to a championship team ... no matter what he's casually said in interviews in the past.

I mean, come on, who is the biggest star to ever play in Charlotte? Larry Johnson? Zo? Speaks volumes.

I love how in a year when LeBron James left a winning franchise in Miami to go back to Cleveland and the finals feature two franchises that haven't won anything in 40 years that it's somehow completely ridiculous for Curry to come to Charlotte in 2017.

We are coming off a 33-49 season, have no stars, and are capped out with management that can't draft worth a lick going nowhere fast. Tell me again why as fans we shouldnt be looking for every glimmer of hope for maybe being a good basketball team at some point?

Lebron was drafted by Cleveland and felt he owed them a championship. Steph owes nothing to Hornets fans. If you want to delude yourself that's fine, but it isn't going to happen, and it never was going to happen.

Have you seen our history in the draft? Lottery? Coaching? Management? Ownership? Brand?

If you are a fan that wants to follow this team in any capacity and you're not searching for any optimism this franchise is liable to drive you to a bottle. You act like we're all setting ourselves up for heartbreak like thd original franchise owner didn't move our team to become the franchise that eventually beats us out for Anthony Davis or something.

LeBron went back to Cleveland because Miami was cheap on the role players, Wade's knees gave out, and he had an opportunity to build another super team in Cleveland.

Get Russell/Hezonja/Mudiay this year and I'll give it the smallest of chances.  Not impossible a core of one of those guys plus MKG/Zeller/Vonleh/Kemba is more attractive than what GSW could have in '17.  Not likely at all but not totally impossible.

e: need DUrant to stay out west too.

And Cam Newton won't re-sign in Charlotte because Charlotte, the Panthers franchise, Jerry Richardson, Gettleman, the offensive line, downtown intersections, etc. etc. etc.

I'm not saying it will happen. I'm saying if we can get our ducks in a row it might be a possibility and somehow every naysayer gets offended. I mean, Montsta is actually a fan and even he hasn't been as defensive as some of you!

You suggest he can go anywhere he wants. Why not here? That's all I'm asking.

I think you can find a lot of optimism in Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, arguably the best defender in the NBA already.

Great! Can't shoot. Probably will never get a reliable jump shot, meaning at best we might have Tony Allen instead of a Kawhi Leonard or Draymond Green.

And so the cycle continues...

Cam was drafted here. Had Curry been drafted here? Then yes, it could make some sense. So ... why not? Charlotte is not a good team. He is now ELITE and will only go where he can win. The ONLY reason Hornets fans have hope is because he grew up here. That's not enough of a reason. Sorry. Suddenly get good and make the East Finals year after year? Yeah, Curry would be all about that. But to leave a championship team to go to a piece of crap? He's not insane.

    • https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46683459/2025-nfl-offseason-tiers-32-teams-best-worst-signings-trades-draft-barnwell Slightly above expectations Highlights: Trading WR Adam Thielen, signing RB Rico Dowdle (one year, $2.8 million), drafting fifth-round TE Mitchell Evans   Disappointments: Re-signing CB Mike Jackson (two years, $10.5 million)   The Panthers chose the right time to move on from Thielen, who had been productive in Carolina before being dealt to Minnesota just before the season. He has been lost in the shuffle there. While the Panthers won't see the fourth-round pick that forms the bulk of the return for Thielen until 2027, getting out from what was owed to a player who has 47 receiving yards in Minnesota is an easy victory. Dowdle has been a revelation since moving into the starting lineup after Chuba Hubbard's injury, becoming one of a handful of players in NFL history to produce consecutive 200-yard scrimmage games. The former Cowboys back was averaging 3 yards per carry before the opportunity, so I'm not sure I would count on him playing like Jim Brown the rest of the way in a rotational role alongside Hubbard. But it's hard to argue that Carolina hasn't already gotten its $2.8 million worth out of the 27-year-old back. Most of Carolina's biggest moves are either tracking to be right around expectation (drafting wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan) or have been impacted by unexpected injuries (signing defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton). Jackson was a pleasant surprise as a starter in 2024, and he hasn't been terrible this season, but most of the big plays against Carolina have come on throws against the former Seahawks cornerback. Overall, though, this has been a very reasonable offseason for the Panthers
    • How would you have taken the guy who was picked ahead of us? That makes no sense.
    • I am not denying that things were said. That wasn’t my point. But carry on this will go nowhere.    Oh snap, the post calling him a liar was like three posts before you jumped in.  what do you get, a post a page?
