Batum to Hornets, Hendo + Vonleh to Portland

Posted at same time, so mod feel free to lock mine since the embedded tweet looks better (side note, how did you do that, I've forgotten).

Initially, I don't mind it. Batum is a solid to good player and relatively young (26).  Sucks to give up on Vonleh so soon, though.

Portland adding cover if Aldridge walks away?

I know that Vonleh isn't ready to take over that starting burden, but he's talented and got a relatively high ceiling to be a good starter if given a chance to develop.

As for us, Batum is a solid small forward. Not sure what this means for MKG going forwards, one of them is going to have to drop to the bench. But it gives us good depth at that position.

Maybe it means we are going with the small ball trend... wouldn't mind seeing Batum and MKG in the same lineup as our forwards

From a Portland perspective, I'd say this is a clear sign they have little faith in re-signing Aldridge.

From a Hornets perspective, either going small with MKG/Batum at the 3/4 or more moves will come.  They're both too talented to sit on a team in tragic need of skill.  I know giving up Vonleh is shocking/sucks in some ways...but Batum has and can be a really, really good player.

I don't know too much about Batum, but by the time the season begins he will be 27.

Someone convince me this was worth giving up on a 19 year old kid after one season who we just drafted 9th overall.

If this blows up in our face, we are going to have to fire everyone on down to the water boys.

    • Why would we not be contenders? As long as Bryce plays like he did when he came back, we absolutely can be contenders...that is...   if the defense plays better... which is why adding someone like Ramsey when we have a QB on a rookie deal and can afford it makes sense IMO. No one thought of the Commanders being contenders last year or the Texans the year before and so on and so forth. Top-end QB play, especially for a guy on a rookie deal, changes everything in terms of timelines. Regardless of what this board thinks, I hope the front office is willing to he aggressive in thks window we currently have with a rookie QB deal
    • Would absolutely love to have him. I dont think he would require more than a 5th rounder. The biggest thing with his contract is the amount of guaranteed money. As long as they can work out and scenario where the Panthers aren't on the hook for a lot of that, I think it's a no-brainer. The Panthers can come up with $20M at the drop of a hat with restructuring Moton's contract, so there definitely isn't an issue from a money perspective. Jaycee paired with Ramsey along with Mike Jack would give us one of the best CB groups in the league. The one caveat I see is that safety still remains our biggest current weakness. We need a starting caliber S more than CB, simply put. But adding someone like Ramsey would be amazing as long as the compensation made sense. Ramsey could also play for FS snaps also. I also dont understand this nonsense about being seasons away. We have a QB on a rookie deal who was playing at an elite level to end last season. Within reason, now is absolutely the time to make moves like trading for Ramsey.
    • He'd be a huge upgrade for this year, but we're still not going to be contenders with him and I'd rather keep the cap space to roll into next season to spend on a younger player who can be an impact starter for us for the next 3-5 years while we're hoping to contend.
