So we cut Marlon Favorite and kept Hilee Taylor?

I'm still scratching my head as to why we cut Marlon Favorite and kept Hilee Taylor?

I was sure the drafting of both Charles Johnson and Everette Brown and signing of Brayton were all signals that the Hilee Taylor experiment was over... but I guess not. I'm not saying Taylor is no good - but with our need at DT compared to our lack of need at DT - and Favorite flashing some ability, I'm suprised we made this move....

I'm thinking they will use Brayton in a duel role. If Brayton is a hybrid player, then Taylor isn't really the fifth DE no more than we have only three DTs at this point. I know it's a stretch, but the team loves versatility and it helps the overall roster numbers. Not to mention Peps may line up as a DT at times this year like he did last season. My point is nine D-lineman is the number the team obviously wants to keep and a couple of our ends able to line up inside from time-to-time obviously helps that situation.

Chances are Taylor will be inactive a lot unless *knocks on wood* the 'I' word becomes an issue. That's really no different than Favorite being inactive. Granted, I liked Favorite too and chances are he'll be coming back to the pracitce squad.

Honestly, theres' not a whole lot of differnce between the 53 man roster and the PS if you are one of the eight players that hardly, if ever, dress.

we needed someone with experience there. hayden still could be cut depending on what shows up at DT.

as much potential as favorite has, he wasn't going to help the team win....at least not yet.

they have plans to go after at least one experienced DT. experienced > potential at the moment.

Maybe because Fox and Hurney could see past the LSU/SEC bullshit that people spew 24/7 about how the SEC has the best NFL talent. Hilee Taylor is got a lot of talent and once he gets his chance to showcase that talent everyone will forget all about Favorite. UNC and the ACC put out talent that's just as good if not better than the SEC.

Go Heels!

Yeah I do but I'm tired of people acting like Hilee Taylor is a bum, there is a reason we kept him last season and that's the same reason we kept him again this season. He's got the potential to be a very good DE once Peppers and Brayton are gone.

I wasn't saying he was a bum, heck - another guy with a last name = Taylor came out of UNC and was pretty darn good.

All I was saying is that when you compare what we have at DE with what we have at DT, it seems to me that it would have made more sense to keep Favorite and cut Taylor.

Both of those happened well before Taylor was picked up in the draft last year. Pass rushers with speed are a premium, why Favorite was cut, I'm not sure, guess he didn't cut it in Foxhurny's eyes.

    • I guess I should have stipulated outside the sacred cow.   I complained from year one that Bryce should compete for and win the starting job on his own merit but no he was just handed it. I have been right there with everyone that wants competition.  But I don’t really have a huge problem with it for this season the way it has gone because where are the viable people we don’t have to trade for? I actually am okay with tiny hands Pickett because he is so close to Bryce arm strength wise and to be honest, skill wise. Probably. And it is only a one year deal.  That also takes I to account that the QB class is looking stacked next year and if Young fails miserably then we get either a reset or a real competition and there will be more guys that I would like looking at in the FA QB class next year as well.    I sort of accept where we are this year and look at it as a treading water year. I just want to get to next year with some clarity. More than anything. And they did empty out the room. Again, who was really there for us?  And I know it would not be a true competition at this point anyway. They are giving him the year, like it or not.    Also I don’t give a poo about winning games IF he sucks and or goes down after sucking because draft position and that stacked QB class.  And I want out from under him So Bad.     So I guess it is several factors that lessen my anxiety over his backup this particular season.    I am not trying to convince anyone, but you asked.
    • What happened to King? Was he a no show?
    • think these smaller Qb's are going to have a much harder time convincing an NFL team to draft them. not saying a smaller Qb under 6 feet tall will not make an NFL roster .it will most likely be a UDFA contract more or less prove it deal.NFL teams have been burnt time & time again investing in these small NFL Qbs & i think  teams are now finally starting to realize that investing in these smaller Qb's under 6 feet tall is simply a bad idea  ...just saying
