WRs.  If you have no threat at WR....most NFL teams can bottle up the run and make life hard on almost any OC

Good news CRA, after being cornered earlier and involuntarily bukkake'd by several Huddlers, yet again, I was informed that WR was actually not a problem at any point prior to KB's injury.   So apparently, if he stayed healthy we were like, the BEST WR unit in the nfl.  And we didn't need help either because Philly Brown was primed to become Tim Brown this year, while Bersin was fully ready to step up and become John Stallworth.  Plus, I was schooled on the cap.  We apparently didn't even have a single hundred dollar bill to spare, so I was relieved to discover all was done that could be done and I'm a fuging idiot for questioning otherwise.

Also, somewhere in the universe, there is copious amounts of passive-aggressive pie being given out in a collective effort to counter and smother any disagreeable energy as I type.  I for one love corny, non-thoughtful, similar, repetitive, and stating the obvious posts!

Glad everything was cleared up for me.

Yes but look at the make up of the defense the games that we got completely blown out in. And then look at the starters the last 6 games (including playoffs). I think our secondary is good enough if Tillman can play well. The issue is that other DE spot. If we had Hardy I would bet a lot of money on us having the #1 defense in points and yards allowed. Harper is the only weakness in our secondary and he's really not that bad. He'd be starting for some other teams.

I still think the secondary is our weak spot...we have enough front 7 talent to scheme around that one DE spot.

Still think age/speed in the secondary is a concern.  Harper is horrid and I love me some Peanut and the dude has a knack....still not sold he can hold up or has the speed over a season.  Also people have Norman as a lockdown CB but I think he is a streaky player.  He will give you lockdown plays but not sure he is as mentally strong as he needs to be yet

That called coaching as well. If you've seen how McDermott coaches to Shula, you can tell the Defense would ride to the gates of hell with him. You can't say the same about old Shula. At what point will you start blaming the brass? So players will be the scapegoat all the time? You have talent on the roster. Gettleman has taken care of that in 2 years. The Offensive line finally looks to be in at least decent shape. Cam is healthy, you have your #1 in Olsen and an Okay supporting cast. The problem is with the wide out issue, Shula won't make any changes, he won't really plan around it.

How do you manage to lose an elite defensive end and still be a top 10 defense? I'm sure McDermott planned around Hardy's departure, with what Gettleman supplied. Why can't shula?

I mean, I can't speak for you, but I myself haven't been their first hand to witness how the offense reacts to Shula or how much they respect him. I think the defensive line and our LB core were still pretty good last year. I think we, objectively, have more talent on defense than offense.

That being said, I think Shula has had two years to really get a grasp of this offense. I expect better playcalling and more flexibility with a stronger offensive line and healthy Cam Newton. You are speaking about the future as if it has already happened. I understand frustrations, but lets let it play out.

Well I am not speaking of the future, I am speaking of History. Everything I have said, has been history. Stuff that already happened. History has repeated itself plenty of times. Now with these issues. I don't see a change in the guard.

Your previous post referenced our O-line being good and Cam being healthy...... That is "future". That season hasn't happened and if you are using pre-season play calling as this year, then you just don't understand what pre-season is.

It's not shula, before shula we have had the same issue for past a decade, besides smitty and mushin we haven't had any wr worth a damn on the roster(maybe lafell). The lack of urgency in that particular position is baffling and looks like it will be that way for a couple seasons unfortunately.

Also i don't know what it is with us and hanging on to players longer then we should,it has became a big flaw over the years and continues to grow, that and less talented players getting reps

    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
    • I think people aren’t patient enough with Young. It can take a few years for a QB to develop. Look at Darnold, Baker and most recently Daniel Jones.   he hasn’t been able to put up big passing numbers either cause of how much we run the ball. You can tell our coaching staff still hasn’t took the training wheels off Bryce and let him go all out. We’ve had some pretty bad receivers as well. We finally got a true number one last year and look how much Bryce improved. Still we didn’t really have any depth behind TMac. Coker was hurt for a lot of the year and XL was our #2. How many big plays or TDs has XL dropped? I think this year can be the year we see Bryce able to hit his stride. If not then we can start looking for another qb but I just ask people to be patient.
