Panthers Beat Writers

Being a beat writer for the Panthers is a lot like being a beat writer for the pentagon, the undergound part with 10 foot thick concrete walls.

And when you do get a bone you have to make sure you always bury it in the sunny part of your backyard and make the Panthers look good always or you may never get another one.

I doubt that. I doubt that the Panthers are more secretive than, say, the Patriots and things about the Patriots leak out all the time.

We need higher quality reporters. It takes more than just calling up someone you know in the organization and seeing if they'll give you anything. You have to form real relationships with these guys early...as soon as they enter the organization. That's how you manage to get scoops on things.

We have such amateurish beat writers that they probably never tried to form some kind of relationship with Fox or Hurney or any other possible source early on.

yeah they suck. read some dude from the observer talking about how the panthers are DEFINITELY going 7-9 because the last two times they went 0-4 in preseason they ended up 7-9 in the regular season. he didn't consider schedule strength or any factors other than 0-4 in preseason = 7-9 regular season.

I am not making excuses for them although it sounds like it. I don't think we have one decent reporter or that we have ever had a decent one.

The Org. makes it difficult to report anything and they have a very tight seal on image. I think image is higher on the list of priorities than winning football games. You are right however. The low-rent Panther mouthpieces hired by local media to cover serve literally no purpose whatsoever. They roll over and wait for a treat as soon as they get in the door it seems and dare not report any opinion that may allude to the org. making an error of some kind.

If they are to be painted perfect they need to start playing like it. Most rational fans understand that they are not perfect but the market seems so small and new that the org. has a stranglehold on the content that gets to the public. At some point that gap must be bridged and the org. will be held accountable to what is prionted as the readers back up the intrepid reporter who does not always bow to the org.

IMHO we should already be there but hey what do I know.

And did you notice the collective circle jerk they all did for the Danny Morrison when he was announced as President? Lest they offend...

    • Exactly He's played two seasons and started 28 games. He's well beyond the point of being able to point to 2 or 3 games and being able to say, "THAT is the QB he is and will be in the future" Of course he can get there, but anyone trying to use just those couple of games to rank his place amongst the games QB's today and their full career's worth of playing at that level, is just asinine. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, Daniels, Stafford, Goff, Geno, Purdy, Baker, Love, Dak, Tua, Kyler, Lawrence That's 17 QB's right there that have played better over their careers than Bryce has played at his best.  And I'm not saying they're all studs or guys I'd want to be our QB moving forward, Tua for example I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, but his body of work is a million times better than Bryce's has been. It's also not including any of the other QB's drafted in 2023/2024 other than Daniels. So again, say you believe in Bryce, say you think he's going to prove he can and should be our QB of the future, that's all fair and totally fine. But nobody can say he's been an above average QB in his career thus far, it's just an asinine notion.
    • I'd think we could get one of those from Dallas for... whatever.
