No one knows who Dallas is named after. It has been a long time since the Cowboys have won the Super Bowl. Carolina having never done it makes it a curious angle of approach. Heck it's been almost that long since the Panthers have beat the Cowboys. Oh well better luck next time.

Ok slick...I guess President James K Polk never had a Vice President named Dallas.

In 1844, John Neely Bryan convinced J. P. Dumas to survey and lay out a 0.5 square mile (1.3 km2) section of blocks and streets near what later became downtown Dallas.[1] The establishment was named Dallas, and though it has been largely assumed that it was named after George Mifflin Dallas, who became Vice Presidentthe following March, there are problems with this theory. George M. Dallas lived in Philadelphia and never traveled very far west of the city, and Bryan had never traveled very far east of Memphis. It is doubtful that the two ever met, and there are at least six other candidates:

Named after George M. Dallas's brother Alexander James Dallas, a U.S. Navycommodore who was stationed in the Gulf of Mexico

Named after George's and Alexander's father, Alexander James Dallas, who was the United States Secretary of the Treasury around the end of the War of 1812

Named in a town-naming contest in 1842;

Named after a friend of founder John Neely Bryan. His son later stated that Bryan claimed to have named the town "after my friend Dallas" (a person whose identity is not certain). John Neely Bryan later died in a psychiatric ward, so his "friend" may not have been a real personNamed after Joseph Dallas, who settled near Dallas in 1843[2]

Named after "Dallas", the modern version of the Scottish Gaelic word "Dalais" which means 'valley of water'

But hey other dude on the Internet Knows.  He just Knows. Because. That's the level of analysis we aspire to here at Carolina Butthole.

Anyone who cares that the Cowboys won the Super Bowl 20 years ago is either dead or should be.

The Panthers last beat the Cowboys in 2004. That length of time is "almost" the same as saying 11 is "almost" the age of consent.

And I do hope we have better luck in our next game against the Cowboys. I more hope we have better refs (we wont, oh well).

And if the best you can throw out is debating the origin of the name Dallas, you need better ways to defend your city. That's pathetic.

I was correcting inaccurate information. That you still believed because you apparently know the provenance of every city's name. But you were wrong. And now you're going to have to get the missus out of bed to apply the preparation h. Hilarious that you guys are so sure of a win against a good team in the NFL, which is a dicey proposition in and of itself. But I keep reading you guys calling out the refs before the game. Kind of belies the false bravado.

But what's really hilarious is you calling the 3-7 Cowboys a good team.

There is literally no reason to be a Cowboy fan unless you're from Arlington

Seriously. I can understand hopping on that bandwagon in the 90s but their pathetic attempt to hold onto the glory days of the 90s is fuging sad. Don't know if there has been a more irrelevant team and joke of an organization over the past decade and a half
