thanks so much man, but I'm still having issues. I did exactly what you said, and the twitter link I copied I'm pasting it in the body of this message and it's not embedding.

I even tried pasting it in the "Insert Other media" section under "Insert image from URL" and that doesn't work either. I also tried pasting the link in the "Link" option above and that doesn't work either.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong :(

Sometimes it takes a little while  (15 - 20 seconds?) for the tweet to embed after I post the link and hit enter.  So you might have to wait a bit before hitting submit?  Otherwise, not sure what to advise.

I'm from the northeast and I have to listen to a lot of crap about the NFC East, and I watched the Panthers lay down to the entire division in 2006 because John Fox couldn't come up with a good gameplan against Jason Campbell, Tony Romo in his first ever start, and Jeff Garcia (why). So this stat means a lot to me.

In the Peter King thread this morning, there was a comment about the fact that our defense has contributed in a major way to our high points per game total this season.  Very true.  But it's not our defense alone that's scoring points.  Here's the comment and stats and the table I posted in that thread:

***

We've scored 103 points off of 28 turnovers.  That's huge.  No denying our defense's role in our wins.

But only 28 of those points have been directly scored by the defense (4 pick 6s).  Our offense still has to get the ball in the end zone or close enough for FGs.  Not all the turnovers have come within easy scoring range, though many have.

Look at the team takeaway - giveaway stats rankings

Not all teams that have high numbers of takeaways are scoring high numbers of points off those takeaways:

http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/team-takeaway-giveaway-statistics/2015/

I copied that data into Excel so I could calculate a figure for points per takeaway.  Here are the resutls.  The table is sorted by points scored per takeaway - best to worst.

(figures in blue lead the league)

Panthers are scoring 3.7 points per takeaway - 4th highest in the league.   So, we not only lead the league in takeaways, but we're among the best in scoring high numbers of points off of takeaways.

Giants are second in takeaways - they have 23 takeaways compared to Panthers 28.  But they have only 70 points scored (3 points per takeaway).  Look at Denver:  they have 20 takeaways, but only 54 points (2.7 points per takeaway).

SO, it's not enough just to have a good defense.  You also need an efficient & opportunistic offense.  And we've got that this year.

And we happen to lead the league (tied with Greenbay) for the fewest points allowed per turnover.   So we've got a GREAT defense, and a VERY VERY solid offense.

Excellent combination.

The average team this season is scoring 2.8 points per takeaway, but allowing 2.8 points per giveaway - thus a net 0 points per turnover!

Panthers by contrast are scoring about 1 point more per takeaway (3.7 points per takeaway) and allowing 1.5 points less per giveaway (1.3 points allowed per giveaway).

You combine this with lleague-leading number of takeaways (average is 16 per team, and we have 28) and below average number of giveaways  (average is 16 per team, we have allowed 12)....

and you have a HUGE factor contributing to our 11-0 season so far.

I think if you look at SuperBowl teams over the years, I'd be willing to bet that they were opportunistic defenses. It always seems that one thing that stands out about successful teams each year (aside from perennial contenders like the pats) is the take aways.

Yes, I think I'm going to go back and do something like a 10 year review of the conference champion teams and their turnover ratios and net points per takeaway / points per give away.

I'd like to see how we compare...

I would also add comparing them to the league that year. I'd bet we are one of the most opportunistic but I'd also bet that each year those teams are opportunistic relative to the league that year.

Also thanks to Matt ryan for contributing 4 pick 6's in our last 4 games against atlanta.

Yea and we have yet to even play them this season. We face 3 QB's who are turnover machines in Ryan, Manning, and Winston.
